Theory of Production
The COVID-19 pandemic has plunged the global economy into its deepest
recession since the Second World War. The pandemic is likely to leave lasting scars ranging
from lower investment to the erosion of human capital. Ultimately, this may lower
productivity and limit income growth. Conversely, the pandemic also raises the possibility of
large structural changes to the global economy, some of which may be productivity-
enhancing.
In the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic, global markets are severely
disrupted. Businesses are forced to explore innovative solutions to overcome the growing
negative implications of this unprecedented crisis. Due to various quarantine measures
imposed by governments around the world, certain industries have been affected much more
than others. As only businesses involved in the value chain of essential commodities are
operational, the rest of the industries need to evaluate how they will respond to business
unusual.
No matter the situation in which we find ourselves, human beings are resilient and
have always found a way to adapt. The fact that so many industries are thriving even while
others are not seeing the same success provides hope that we will be able to cope with the
challenges presented by Covid-19 and come out stronger.
We all started this year with aspirations and dreams that we wished to accomplish.
Just like the start to any new year, this year promised new opportunities and experiences.
However, COVID-19 pressed pause on our lives and halted some of the goals we had set out
to achieve.
