7 E’S ACTIVITY

TOPIC Multiplication of
Polynomials
GRADE LEVEL 7
THE ALLOTMENT 1 HOUR
TEACHERS GROUP 7
CONTENT
Patterns and Algebra
CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
algebraic expressions, the properties of real numbers as applied
in multiplication of polynomials
LEARNING COMPETENCY
The learner should be able model situations using oral, written, graphical and
algebraic methods in solving problems.
LEARNING MATERIALS
1. Moving Ahead With Mathematics II.1999.pp 170-182*
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Define polynomial and the rules involving operations on polynomials.
2. Multiply polynomials such as;
a. Monomial by monomial,
b. Monomial by polynomial with more than one term,
c. Binomial by binomial
d. Polynomial with more than one term to polynomial with three or more
terms.
3. Solve problems involving polynomials.
4. Show teamwork and cooperation through participating in a group activity.
ELICIT
Have the students recall adding and subtracting polynomials. Teacher uses a short
recitation to test student’s previous knowledge. This method of testing will elicit
the knowledge of all students.
Questions:
1. Ask them to briefly remember the things that is needed in adding and
subtracting polynomials.

ENGAGE MATERIALS (PRINTED WORKSHEETS, LAPTOP,

PROJECTOR)
Show written exercises in the class and let them classify each kind of polynomials.
Then ask the following questions:
1. What are the Students are expected to identify the kinds of Polynomials.
Ask these follow up questions:
1. 2m+5
2. 9k
3. 5(m+3)

EXPLORE MATERIALS: (Dice Dry-erase board Dry-erase markers)

Divide the class into four groups, and give each group dice, dry-erase boards, and
dry-erase markers. For each round, students will take turns rolling two dice to help
them create a polynomial. One die will designate how many terms should be in the
polynomial, while the other die will determine the degree of the polynomial. For
example, if a student rolled a 3 and 2, they could write polynomials such as: x³ + 34
(2 terms, 3rd degree polynomial) or x² - 23x - 5 (3 terms, 2nd degree polynomial).
Let the students to perform the activity and find the product.

EXPLAIN MATERIALS: ( WORRSHEET)

After the activity, each group will post their answers in the board and a
representative from the group will serve as their presenter. As part of their
presentation, he/she will answer the teachers' following problem questions:
1. 2(2n+3) = 4n+6. This is the correct answer. Could you tell us why it this
correct? (The student will now explain)
2. 5(5n-2) = 25n-10. This is correct. How did you determine that it is the
correct product? (The student will explain)
3. (n-7)(3n+1) = 3n2 -20n-7. This is correct. Could you tell us why? (The
student will explain)
4. ( x 2+2xy+ y 2)(x-2y)= x 3-3x y 2-2 y 3.This is the correct answer. (The student
