SCI9 Activity 2

Answer the following questions comprehensively.

1. Which primary goal of the health system do you think should be the priority in the
Philippines? Why?

- Wha t the Philippines nee d to pri oritiz e is the ultimat e goal of healt hcar e
whi ch is, the attainment of better health services for all. A Filipino cannot deny that there is a
critical need for economical, dependable medical equipment in the country. In
addition to a shortage of healthcare providers, there is a lack of medical equipment in
the Philippines. The shortage of hospit als and sur gic al e qui pme nt are the prim ary
barrie rs to qualit y he althcar e in the Philippines. With a growing population that has
a number of more than a hundred million in 2020, the Philippines is our world's
thirteenth most populated country. Half of the people who live in the Philippines reside in rural
areas of the country where there are sometimes no licensed medical doctors and ill-equipped
facilities with broken medical devices. Another more reason why Philippines’ healthcare
delivery system suffers from a variety of deficiencies.

2. Do you think that the directions of the Philippines Health Sector are on the right track? Do you
have any other recommendations?

- The Philippines health sector is not on the right tract and it is on a critical stage in its
transformation. While the country has undertaken several significant health sector reforms in the
past decades, a large unfinished policy agenda remains. Especially among poor households, is at
risk and there is a newly emerging challenge of addressing non-communicable diseases MDG
(Millennium Development Goals). It is within this context, that the Philippine health sector
review takes stock of health reforms implemented to date, and evaluates the impact of these
reforms on health systems performance. Based on this evaluation, the review identifies the
challenges and future policy directions for accelerating the transformation of the Philippines
health sector for improved health outcomes, financial protection of the population and consumer
satisfaction. And I don’t have any recommendations. Philippines is the worst country for me
when it comes to providing health services.

3. Do you think that the Philippines have achieved the goals and functions of a Health System?

- I believe that the Philippines has gone a long way with its path into providing health services
to its constituents. But, to what I observed in the past years, its goals are still trying to find
momentum to garner a better output to Filipinos. One factor that I see is the health service
provision. I am a province-born citizen. We have numerous hospitals that cater hospital
needs, some lacking inputs until now. The saturation of highly-known hospitals in the
country in the capital makes it clear that there is inequality of hospital oneness here in the
Philippines. Responsiveness also holds accountable with the slow output of the country in
terms of health care. We do not have a system by which when a patient is rejected from a
hospital from which the service needed cannot be rendered, there is no absolute way of
contact to where the hospital can cater best solution. The efforts to counter lack of abouts
came into fruition as we have programs participated in the country that betters the lives of the
Filipinos. Although we have reached the era wherein scientific and medical knowledge had
increased in proximity, the country is far from reaching the satisfaction by which its
customers are raving for a change.
