CLUES:
➢ A simple machine that has a sloping surface. It is lessening the effort
exerted over a distance.

➢ A devise, which has a fulcrum or a pivot point, the effort end where force
is applied, and the resistance end where the load is located.

➢ It is a double inclined plane that is sharpened to an end. It adds more

force to the effort as it goes through a longer distance.

➢ It is a form of inclined plane that is wrapped around a central shaft.

➢ It is a modified wheel and axle. It is a special type of wheel that has a

rope sliding on the grove of the wheel. The groove prevents the rope from
sliding.

➢ It has the same appearance with a pulley, but it has a wheel that is fixed
to the axle, like in the steering wheel of a car.

Let Us Practice

The idea of simple machines originated around third century BC with

the Greek philosopher Archimedes, who studied simple machines like the
lever, pulley, and screw. Archimedes discovered the mechanical advantage of
lever. In later years, Greek philosophers defined the classic five simple
machines-lever, pulley, screw, wedge, and wheel and axle.

Lesson MANIPULATE SIMPLE MACHINES TO
DESCRIBES THE CHARACTERISTICS
2 AND USES

Let Us Study
The word "machine" originated from the Latin word “machina”. A machine is
defined as an apparatus or instrument that does not have an internal energy source
but is intended to transmit or alter the use of power, force, or motion. It is a system
made up of different components that transfer energy from one shape to another.

When you use the simple machine to do work, two kinds of forces are involved:
the force applied to the machine and the force applied by the machine to act against
another force like friction and gravity. The force applied by the machine is called the
resistance force and the effort applied to a machine is called effort force.

Let’s answer.
