Targets: I Can..
● monggo seeds
● vinegar
● baking soda
● loam soil
● cup
Procedure
1. Prepare the following solutions. a. Add approximately 20 mL of vinegar with 80 mL of water. This will
be used used for the acidic soil setup. b. Add approximately 1 gram of baking soda in 100mL of water.
This will be used for the basic soil setup.
2. Half-fill a plastic cup with soil. Place a seed of monggo bean. Prepare three cups of soil with a monggo
seed
3. Water the seeds everyday using water of different acidity. a. In the first cup, use water with vinegar.
b. In the second cup, use water with baking soda. c. In the last cup, use plain water. 4. Using a ruler,
measure the growth of the monggo seedling (in millimeter) each day after the 3rd day until the 7th day.
Waste Disposal
1. Dispose the water with vinegar and water with baking soda in the sink with running water.
Guide Questions
1. What is the scientific question that can be asked regarding the effect of soil acidity on the growth of
the plant? Acidity has the following impacts on soil: it reduces the availability of plant nutrients like
phosphorus and molybdenum, while increasing the availability of certain elements to hazardous levels,
especially aluminum and manganese. Below the rooting zone, essential plant nutrients can also be
leached.
2. What is the hypothesis regarding the growth of the plant and soil acidity? Acidity has the following
impacts on soil: it reduces the availability of plant nutrients like phosphorus and molybdenum, and it
raises the availability of certain elements to hazardous levels, especially aluminum and manganese.
Below the rooting zone, essential plant nutrients might be leached.
3. What is the independent variable in the experiment? What is the dependent variable? In terms of
cause and effect, independent and dependent variables are the factors you believe are the cause, while
dependent variables are the consequence. In an experiment, the independent variable is changed and
the outcome is measured in the dependent variable.
4. What is the best graph suited in presenting the data obtained? When depicting a change in anything
across a continuous range, line graphs are the ideal sort of graph to employ. A line graph, for example,
may be used to show a temperature change over time. Because it can have any value between two
measurements, time is a continuous variable.
