The idea is to come up with the desired output, which is to determine and

distinguish the level of satisfactions experienced by the Civil Engineering students at FSUU
considering the factors that they have also faced at this very moment of time while having
online class. Knowing that this mode of learning is new to almost all students.

Most of them are still adapting and adjusting to this new mode of learning. With
these, the researchers decided to conduct a study with regards to the topic they have to
seek for answers. Also, at the same time this study could benefit the following group of
people.

Firstly, are the students for them to evaluate themselves especially in terms of their
academic performance, to make some adjustments in which they need to improve and
something that they have to do with themselves to be better. Secondly, are the parents for
them to be aware about their son’s and daughter’s academic status and also to make some
actions if ever there’s anything they have to do so. Lastly, are the teachers for them to be
aware also as if how their student’s feeling and doing.

Moreover, the topic was very relevant and timely which for sure everyone is not way
knowledgeable and aware of. Thus, it will be useful not only to the following group of
people mentioned above but most specifically also to the future researchers.  The study
uses descriptive analysis of how online learning changes the way the student learns from
their subjects.

For more than a century, face to face (F2F) class is the well-known and widely used
mode of learning. Meanwhile, with the current threat brought by COVID19, F2F classes
were strictly prohibited especially in the Philippines. With that being said, schools both in
public and private under the advisory of DepEd and CHED initiated a new mode of learning
-- the online class. By which, students can still learn and avail quality education at the
comfort of their home.
However, Helms, J.L (2014) stated that online students had significantly lower grade
point averages missed significantly more likely to fail the course of F2F class. These and
other results are discussed through which to view student performance in online courses.
Another study has shown that there were students who got positive outcomes during
online class and some others experienced the other way. It has something to do on the
online learning attitude and readiness of the students. Obviously, online classes caused
diverse impacts to students -- let it be positive or negative.

Relatively, less research has been done directly in finding the level of satisfaction
that focuses on civil engineering student’s experience during online class. Most of the civil
engineering students are prone to field laboratories instead of lectures such as surveying,
site visiting and etc.

According to the Top Hat survey (2020), students still overwhelmingly say that they
prefer in-person to online learning. With 68 percent believing they are not learning as
effectively as they would have had they been in person and roughly three-quarters of
respondents say their online courses lack an engaging experience during class sessions and
direct interaction with peers and professors.
Students were also more likely to disagree than to agree that the online learning
experience was engaging in the classroom and (particularly) outside it, and slightly more
likely to disagree (53 percent) than agree (46 percent) that they were "able to stay
motivated and engaged with my education and coursework outside of class time."
Furthermore, little research has looked at the relationship between the profile of the
respondents and their level of satisfaction in online learning. This gap in particular
provided the motivation for the researchers to find how civil engineering students in FSUU
were satisfied with this new mode of learning.
More so, this thesis reports the findings of a thorough study to determine the level
of satisfaction encountered by Civil Engineering students particularly in FSUU, Butuan. And
fortunately, out from the results of the study, recommend some constructive ideas and
suggestions for better learning in the context of online class. Additionally, this study aims
to help both of the instructors and the CE students in the FSUU academe in the objective of
attaining quality education through online learning.

Given that the field of engineering is a practical profession, traditional methods of

teaching no longer meet the learning needs of students at higher levels of education. Hence,
to adequately prepare students for engineering practices, it is imperative that institutions
adopt innovative methods of teaching, learning, and assessment. Particularly, more
importance should be placed on empowering students to make connections between
theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom and applications in practice. This is
particularly critical when students are introduced to huge amounts of knowledge in a short
period of time, despite having no prior knowledge on the subject [1]. The limitations of
adopting traditional methods of teaching—conservative lectures with direct flow of
information from instructors to students—have been alluded to in the literature [2].
Although students demonstrate cognitive activeness, they are physically inactive, given the
insufficient interaction between the instructor and the students [3]. This tends to produce
passive learners, as students cannot maintain the required levels of rapt attention and
assimilation.
