Parabola with Vertex at (0, 0)

Introduction
You have already encountered a parabola and its graph based on the quadratic
function f(x) = ax2 + bx + c where a, b and c are real numbers and a ≠ 0. You have
learned also that the graph of a parabola either opens downward or upward. In this
section, you will learn the graph of a parabola that opens left or right.
Why are parabolas important? Do you know that the parabola is used in the design of
car headlights and in spotlights? This is because a parabolic reflector has the
property that if a light source is placed at the focus of the reflector, the light
rays will reflect from the mirror as rays parallel to the axis. This module
discusses the standard form of the equation of the parabola with vertex at the
origin.
