COLLISION ON REGULATION

One of the issues that the maritime industry is now dealing with is the
safety of the ship, cargo, and crew, as the sector continues to develop and
produce more ships in order to meet the global trade demand. Without this
law, the maritime sector would be in difficulty because there would be a lot of
ship collisions caused by misunderstanding and lack of communication since
there would be no guidance for sailors to follow to avoid collision, for instance
if the ship is run aground and just shows a one light, this action can result to
collision because the lights are not properly place. This law was developed not
just for seafarers on large ships, but also for smaller boats and fishing vessels,
because they are both in risk and may cause danger if they are unaware of the
rules. In the Philippines this collision on regulation plays a vital role because as
we know the Philippines is an archipelagic country of more than 7,000 islands,
has a flourishing domestic shipping industry. According to the review laws in
web that in 2019, the domestic operating fleet consisted of 28,210 registered
vessels, which moved people and cargo throughout the archipelago, Because
of the crowded shipping industry in the PH, with the addition of the local
fishermen, if there were no regulation, the waters around the Ph would be in
chaos. But thanks to COLREG, the Philippines is safe and away from danger. I
have the privilege to suggest that this regulation is given proper sanction on
the smaller boats that are disobeying it. Especially here in the Philippines,
there are a lot of fishermen that have no care for their surroundings and
sometimes they cause collisions. Collision on regulation or COLREG is not just
about rules this is about the safety of the vessel, cargo and the ships itself.
