Independent
Rationale:
The drug is contraindicated in those with a hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, it can cause fatal
anaphylactic reactions.
2. Monitor renal function including BUN and creatinine values, and intake and output.
Rationale:
The drug can cause hematological toxic effects, which are increased with kidney disease
3. Monitor baseline and follow-up urinalysis, CBC, platelet count, BUN and creatinine
clearance with long-term therapy.

4. Administer on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after meals.
Rationale:
To reduce nausea and vomiting as a side effect of the drug
5. Advise patient to drink plenty of fluids 2.5-3 liters of fluid daily while taking the
medication

To lower the unlikely risk of kidney stones forming, unless physician advises otherwise.
