Steve Smith Joins Industry Giant Spark Energy to Launch a New Network Marketing
Company with Spark Energy’s W. Keith Maxwell, III and Waters Davis to make history
in the deregulated energy market
Network Marketing legend Steve Smith, who pioneered the use of network marketing in
the deregulated telecommunications industry in the 1990s, announced today the launch of
Ampegy, the network marketing affiliate of Houston’s Spark Energy.

With the introduction of Ampegy, Smith has aligned himself with Spark Energy Founder
& CEO W. Keith Maxwell and Spark Energy Executive Vice President Waters Davis,
who also serves as Ampegy’s President. Collectively these three executives set a new
standard for excellence as they embark on creating what they feel will be the premier
network marketing company within the deregulated energy marketplace.

Prior to joining Ampegy as its Chief Marketing Officer, Steve Smith established himself
as one of the most successful marketers of our time when, in the 1990’s, he pioneered the
use of network marketing in the deregulated telecommunications industry with Excel
Communications, where he served as Vice President of Marketing and Co-Founder.
Under Smith’s leadership, Excel’s revenues grew to a billion and a half dollars in just
seven years, making it the fourth largest long-distance carrier in the nation.

W. Keith Maxwell, III, Spark Energy’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer has worked
diligently over the past 10 years to oversee the expansion of the company’s customer
base and service area, which now covers 16 states. Prior to founding Spark, he helped
create Wickford Energy and Polaris Pipeline. Maxwell is a native Houstonian and earned
a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Texas. He and his family are
actively giving back to the community by supporting organizations such as the Special
Olympics, Child Advocates, Salvation Army, Star of Hope and Helping a Hero.

Waters Davis, President of Ampegy and Executive Vice President of Spark Energy, has
more than 20 years of senior management experience in the energy industry. Prior to
joining Spark Energy, Davis was an executive at a number of early stage privately held
businesses as well as President of Reliant Energy Retail Services, Senior Vice President
of Shared Services for Houston Industries, and a Senior Manager with consulting firm
McKinsey & Company. Davis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the
University of Texas and an MBA degree from Harvard University.
