Organizations and corporations all over the world have recognized the need to keep pace with
the changes within and even outside their operating environments. Success in today’s
business world is largely determined by how quick organizations and corporations respond to
the demands brought about by changes in and around them. This is why organizations and
corporations that have implemented agile systems or have adopted the agile approach, have
better capacity to respond to the fast pace required to do business in the 21 st century. In order
to succeed and achieve competitive advantage, organizations must continually change and
evolve.

Managing change in organizations and corporations requires a very delicate approach, with a
clear understanding of the content of the change, and the processes within which the change
occurs. This requires adequate knowledge and experience. Change management has been
studied and analyzed over the years, resulting in systemic and clearly defined processes for
driving change in organizations. Many scholars and groups have come up with definitions of
change management, with some holding narrow views and a few expressing quite an
expansive definition of the subject. Some of these definitions are considered below.

According to the Association of Change Management Professional (ACMP), change

management is “the practice of applying a structured approach to transition an organization
from a current state to a future state to achieve expected benefits”. Markus Wanner, in his
paper on integrated change management, defined change management as an “organized,
systematic application of the knowledge, tools and resources of change that provides
organizations with a key process to achieve their strategy. The renowned Change
Management Learning Center, Prosci, defined change management as the “process, tools and
techniques required to manage the people side of change to achieve the desired.
