SITUATION Having gathered information about your client and having
done an analysis of their current performance in their chosen
activity based on components of fitness tests /skill and
techniques through video analysis and their current levels of
social/mental/spiritual well-being, you are now to develop an
individualized and appropriate health and physical training
program of 6 planned sessions.  
PRODUCT As a coach you have assessed your client’s current
performance, and you have identified their goals. This task is
now to create an Individualized Performance Development Plan
that will help meet the client’s goals in the best way possible in
6 planned sessions.

STANDARD Criterion B: Planning for Performance

TASK DESCRIPTION:
Task 2a: Criterion B(i)-Planning for Performance:
Develop meaningful goals towards making positive choices

develops goals to enhance performance (Bi)

Develop meaningful goals towards improving performance that extend beyond your physical
development and include growth in the areas of physical and social and/or mental and/or spiritual well-
being. You will need to develop:

● ONE physical goal that will improve your performance and change how you feel about yourself
● One psychological goal that will improve your performance and change how you feel about
yourself

NB: Refer to Task 1 where you initially identified your TWO goals (one physical and psychological
goal)

i. SMART Goal(s): Using the physical and health profile created in Task 1 and your benchmark
testing/ survey results, you need to explicitly apply the SMART Goal Principle (Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely) to:
● Develop ONE physical goal that will improve your performance and change how you feel
about yourself. Focus on health related AND sports specific fitness components
● Develop ONE psychological goal that will change your performance and change how you
feel about yourself.

Task 2b: Criterion B(ii)-Planning for performance


i. Designs, explains and justifies 6 planned sessions to improve the physical and Psychological goals
your specific needs. For each session you need to include the following:
● A physical and health goal related plan (i.e. training program) to improve your chosen
fitness component that meets your needs.
Make sure you include:
o An explanation and JUSTIFICATION of the training method & exercises, especially
regarding how it will help improve your fitness component, physical performance,
AND well-being.
o A diagram of the exercises and/or layout of the program/ circuit
o Explanation of what to do, how to do it and why you did it.
o Apply the F.I.T.T. Principle of training (reps, set, intensity)
o Coaching style, motivation
o
● A Psychological goal related plan(s) to guide you towards developing mental well-being
goal(s) i.e., strategies / practices to improve skills, techniques, or movement concepts in your
chosen activity; techniques in visualization; mindfulness; increasing focus; overcoming
performance anxiety etc.
Make sure you include:
o An explanation of what to do and JUSTIFICATION of how it will help improve your
well-being
o Diagrams and coaching points of any practices you will perform
o Motivation etc.
a. Provide a Journal entry after each session reflecting on the training programme. Be sure to
include what went well, improvements needed, coach’s comments, client’s comments, future
adaptations.
b. After 2-3 sessions, re-test your client using the original tests to identify if they have improved in
performance.
c. Based on the results of the mid-point tests, observations, and survey you need to evaluate the
effectiveness of the training program in helping to develop the required physical and well-being
goals and adjust your SMART GOAL(S) as necessary.

● Don’t forget to explain/justify why? (Make sure you refer to the fitness tests, observations,
and survey).
d. At the end of the program implementation, retest your client using the original tests to
identify if they have improved in performance.

NOTE- To analyse issues, plans and performances involves examining the significance and
interrelationships of essential elements in order to reassemble or synthesize these component

point. When students evaluate, they interpret information and ideas, considering their
strengths and limitations for solving a particular problem.
