The purpose of quantitative research is to generate knowledge and create


understanding about the social world and in order for us to know how many or how
much it is. One of the characteristics of quantitative research is putting emphasis on
proof rather than discovery, it means proof or evidence is more important than
discovery. Another characteristic is quantitative research has a method that can be
repeated to verify findings in another setting, thus, eliminating the possibility of
spurious conclusions. Which means to verify or to confirm a finding in another
setting with this it can reinforced the validity of the discoveries or findings.
Qualitative data are usually gathered by observation, and one of the strengths of
this research was it can complement an refine quantitative data. Another one is it
can Provide more detailed information to explain complex issues. Alternately this
type of research is so expensive and time-consuming and it was difficult so a lot of
time is required in order for this research to be perform. Thus, making it a
weakness. Quantitative research is mostly used in scientific researches. So how can it
help in poverty reduction? Through analysis of communities using quantitative
methods, it can provide knowledge in developing a better understanding of the drivers
of poverty trajectories and reduction according to quantitative and qualitative data
sources, all the while enabling cross-country comparisons to be made.
