Activity 3: Poem Analysis
Hush, little sister Hey, little sister But hush, little sister
Please don't cry You want to know why Daddy's coming home
I wish I could be there I'm not there? Quick, get into bed
To sing you a lullaby It's a sad story, little sister You don't want him to find
I can see your arms But people should care you alone
Bloodied and bruised You see, little sister
That's strange, little sister I'm sorry little sister
One day Daddy got high
Mine were like that too He's in a bad mood
You were asleep in your
Run while you can
I know you scream crib
When Daddy's there So you didn't hear my cry
Uh oh little sister
Hush, little sister He screamed at me He's lifting his belt
I know you're scared And smashed my head Scream while you can,
I can see the way against the door little sister
He's hurting you While you slept, little sis- Call for help
I'm sorry, little sister ter
He did that to me too I died on the floor Hush little sister
You don't need to cry
I know that people You know, little sister No one can hurt you
Ignore what's going on at You're in my arms tonight
I don't think that I would
home have died
That makes me angry, little If someone had only
sister
bothered
You shouldn't have to be To listen to my cries
alone
