Reaction paper (Stanza 3)

I Introduction

During the childhood of Rizal, he was able to express high intelligence.

Especially, in the aspect of literature. One of his famous poems was entitled “Sa aking
mga kabata” which then translates to “To my fellow children”. Rizal wrote it in 1869.
This, unfortunately, was also the time when it paved the way for the Philippines'
direct commercial relations with Spain. Back in the day, words are not just words.
They are treated as a weapon.

II Body

In the Third stanza it says, “Ang hindi magmahal sa kanyang salita, Mahigit sa
hayop at malansang isda,” After more than 200 years of ongoing colonization of Spain.
Rizal heavily expressed that the youth must be taught and love the Filipino language.
Because he believed that if a person cannot even preserve the true Filipino culture,
he or she does not deserve to be called Filipino in the first place. Being compared to
an animal or stinky fish means that you are of no use in being beneficial.

“Kaya ang marapat pagyamaning kusa, Na tulad sa inang tunay na nagpala.”

One of the hundreds of things I admire about Rizal is his love and respect for women
as much as he would do anything to protect our home country. In this line, he made
sure that every Filipino is made to be patriotic. Having each and every one develop an
attitude that continuously aims for the betterment of the Philippines.

III Reaction

After reading this poem, I realized that even though I am a single person who
may be only a small percentage of all the Filipino. I still have the power to sharpen
and mold the thinking of my fellow youth, that the Filipino culture resides within
each one. Thus, we should keep it alive and nurtured.

IV Conclusion/Recommendation

As a brief, even at a young age, Rizal believed that as a Filipino. Everyone must
partake in patronizing the Philippines rather than hiding ourselves in the façade that
pleases the colonist. As a youth, he hoped for us. He entrusted our capability to have
independence by firstly reminding us to use our language.
