EXEMPLAR Teaching Date February 23, 2021 Quarter Second
Teaching Time 9:00 am – 10:00 am No. of Days 1 day

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the unit,
mole, that quantitatively measures the number of very
small particles of matter
B. Performance Standards Analyze the percentage composition of different brands
of products and decide on the products’ appropriate
percentage composition
C. Learning Competencies or  Define percentage composition
Objectives  Calculate the percentage composition of a
compound
 Appreciate the importance of composition of a
compound
D. Most Essential Learning Determine the percentage composition of a compound
Competencies (MELC) given its chemical formula
(If available, write the
indicated MELC)
E. Enabling Competencies
(If available, write the attached
enabling competencies)
II. CONTENT Percentage Composition of Compounds
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
a. Teacher’s Guide Pages
b. Learner’s Material Pages pages 38-40
c. Textbook Pages pages 157-158

B. List of Learning Resources - Activity sheets

for Development and - Slide decks
Engagement Activities
IV.PROCEDURES
A. Introduction  Preliminary activities - Prayer and Greetings
 Review
To recall the previous topic, the learners will
answer the given questions.

1. It refers to the number of protons and neutrons

present in the nucleus of an atom.
2. It is defined as the mass in grams of one mole of
a substance.
3. What is the atomic mass of iron
4. Calculate the molar mass of CuS O 4.
5. What is the molar mass of H 2 S O 4 .?
 Motivation
To assess if the leaners’ understanding about
percentage, they will perform the activity “Time Is
Gold“

What percentage of each day do you spend for

a. work?
b. family?
c. yourself?
d. friends?

(Hint: Divide the numbers of hours you spend for each

category by the total number of hours each day. Then
multiply by 100 to get the percentage)

D. Development  Using slide decks, the teacher will explain more

about percentage composition.

Guide Questions:
1. What is percentage composition?
2. How are we going to find the percentage
composition of a compound?
3. What are the importance of knowing the
percentage composition of a compound?
4. How is percentage composition useful in our
everyday lives?
 Board Activity
Allow the learners to practice what they have learned by
answering the questions below.

1. H 3 P O 4 , Phosphoric acid, is used in detergents,

fertilizers, toothpastes and flavoring in carbonated
beverages. Calculate the percent composition of
the compound.

2. What is the % composition of a compound that is

found to contain 34.6 grams of oxygen and 87.0
grams of nitrogen?

F. Engagement  Group Work

The class will be divided into two groups. The group

should have a representative for each turn with which
they will answer a given problem. The person who gets
the correct answer first will get the point. The group that
will get the most number of points will be declared as
winner.

 Individual Work
People have never been more concerned about their
health not until this pandemic came. People became
more interested in drinking supplementary medicines
and multivitamins and one of those is Conzace.
This nutritional supplement is formulated with vitamins A,
C, E and zinc to help enhance the body's natural
immune function and help improve body resistance
against illness and infections. These nutrients are also
known to help the body's antioxidant defense system
against damaging free radicals.
Each softgel capsule contains:
 Retinol Palmitate (Vitamin A) 5000 IU (0.0015 g)
 dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) 100 IU
(0.000067 g)
 Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 500 mg (0.005 g)
 Zinc (as Sulfate) 25 mg (0.025 g
Calculate the percentage composition of vitamin A, E, C
and Zinc in each capsule. Express your answers in
grams and milligrams.
D. Assimilation Group Activity - It’s Grocery Time!

Objectives:
 Apply the concept of percentage composition in
choosing grocery items; and
 Realize that the amount of substance intake can
be monitored with the use of percentage
composition

Materials:
 Grocery items containers or packages (food
wrappers, can, bottles, etc.)- should be assigned
before hand

Procedure:
1. Get three samples of containers or packages of
grocery items such as canned goods, snacks and
beverages.
2. List the substances written as
contents/ingredients on the label. Choose two
substances for each type of grocery item.
3. Research from a chemistry book or from the
internet the chemical formula of the substance on
your list.
4. Compute for the percentage composition of the
substances you have listed.

Reminders:
Your output should include the following.

 Page 1 – cover
 Page 2 – pictures of food packages used (may
use the actual packages)
 Page 3 – computations
 Page 4 – Realization or conclusion (comparison
between two products)

Place your work in a folder with Group Name and

Members’ Name in the cover.

Learner’s output will be graded based on the following

criteria:

Neatness and Organization--------------------------- 10

Correct Computations---------------------------------- 20
Comprehensive and detailed description of
realization/conclusion----------------------------------- 15

Total------------------------------------------------------ 45 points

V. REFLECTION The learners will reflect about their learning in the

lessons by answering the following questions:
 What have you learned in this lesson?
 What have you realized?
 What seems to be difficult for you about this
lesson?
 What else do you want to know about this lesson?
