LESSON EXEMPLAR-Percentage Composition
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the unit,
mole, that quantitatively measures the number of very
small particles of matter
B. Performance Standards Analyze the percentage composition of different brands
of products and decide on the products’ appropriate
percentage composition
C. Learning Competencies or Define percentage composition
Objectives Calculate the percentage composition of a
compound
Appreciate the importance of composition of a
compound
D. Most Essential Learning Determine the percentage composition of a compound
Competencies (MELC) given its chemical formula
(If available, write the
indicated MELC)

Guide Questions:
1. What is percentage composition?
2. How are we going to find the percentage
composition of a compound?
3. What are the importance of knowing the
percentage composition of a compound?
4. How is percentage composition useful in our
everyday lives?
Board Activity
Allow the learners to practice what they have learned by
answering the questions below.
Individual Work
People have never been more concerned about their
health not until this pandemic came. People became
more interested in drinking supplementary medicines
and multivitamins and one of those is Conzace.
This nutritional supplement is formulated with vitamins A,
C, E and zinc to help enhance the body's natural
immune function and help improve body resistance
against illness and infections. These nutrients are also
known to help the body's antioxidant defense system
against damaging free radicals.
Each softgel capsule contains:
Retinol Palmitate (Vitamin A) 5000 IU (0.0015 g)
dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) 100 IU
(0.000067 g)
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 500 mg (0.005 g)
Zinc (as Sulfate) 25 mg (0.025 g
Calculate the percentage composition of vitamin A, E, C
and Zinc in each capsule. Express your answers in
grams and milligrams.
D. Assimilation Group Activity - It’s Grocery Time!
Objectives:
Apply the concept of percentage composition in
choosing grocery items; and
Realize that the amount of substance intake can
be monitored with the use of percentage
composition
Materials:
Grocery items containers or packages (food
wrappers, can, bottles, etc.)- should be assigned
before hand
Procedure:
1. Get three samples of containers or packages of
grocery items such as canned goods, snacks and
beverages.
2. List the substances written as
contents/ingredients on the label. Choose two
substances for each type of grocery item.
3. Research from a chemistry book or from the
internet the chemical formula of the substance on
your list.
4. Compute for the percentage composition of the
substances you have listed.
Reminders:
Your output should include the following.
Page 1 – cover
Page 2 – pictures of food packages used (may
use the actual packages)
Page 3 – computations
Page 4 – Realization or conclusion (comparison
between two products)
