Brief lesson plan in Science

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Discuss the relationship of gravitational energy and work.
2. Perform mathematical problems involving gravitational potential energy
and;
3. Share some ways on how to use energy wisely in doing a work.

II. Subject matter:

Topic: Gravitational potential energy
References: Grade 8 science learner’s module Pp 28-31.

Materials: Power point presentation, video clips, paper, pen

Values integration: Make use of energy wisely.
Methodology: 4 A’s approach (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application)

III.Procedures:

Teacher’s activity
A. Preparation
B. Prayer: Okay, before we begin our lesson, let’s pray first. Ms. Janilla, please lead the
prayer.
C. Checking of attendance.
D. Review
E. (The teacher will present pictures and the students will relate them to the previous
discussion).
F. Motivation
G. (The teacher will ask the students to analyze two different images and random
students will try to answer some given questions. After answering the questions,
students will try to guess the next topic).
H. Discussion
I. (The class will be divided into five groups and each group will perform a task about
the concept of gravitational potential energy. The teacher will explain what was the
activity about. Then the teacher will discuss the concept as well as its mathematical
representation.)
J. Application
K. (The same groupings will try to answer the given mathematical problem related to
gravitational potential energy. Each leader of the group will present the solution.)
L. Generalization
M. (The teacher will ask the students about the concept of gravitational potential energy
and its significance to their everyday life.)

IV. Evaluation
I. ESSAY:
Relate the mathematical formula of Work and Potential energy to their
relationship with one another in four sentences. (3 pts)
II. PROBLEM SOLVING:
A man lifted a 4 kg sack of rice 1 meter above the floor. Find the potential
energy. (5 pts)
II. ENUMERATION:
Share at least two techniques that reduces human effort in lifting heavy objects.
(2 pts)

V. Assignment
1. Study how the height of an object from the ground influences the amount of potential
energy in it.
2. Do some advance study about elastic potential energy.
