the circle that corresponds to the correct answer.

1. Who among the following scientists contributed to the cell

A B C D
theory?

I. Albert Einstein

II. Rudolf Virchow

III. Matthias Schleiden

IV. Charles Darwin

A. I and II C. III and IV

B. II and III D. I and IV

2. Which of the following is a premise of cell theory?

A B C D
A. Cells are produced through spontaneous generation from

existing cells.

B. All living and non-living things are composed of one or

more cells.

C. Cells are the basic structure and function of an organism.

D. All living things engage in metabolic activities.

3. If all cells are created by other cells, which of the following is

A B C D
NOT true?

I. Spontaneous generation cannot occur.

II. Plant cells come from other plant cells.

III. Sperm cells undergo cell division for reproduction.

IV. Growth of mold in an exposed expired bread.

A. A. I and II C. II and IV

B. II only D. IV only
4.What did Matthias Schleiden contribute to the cell theory?
A B C D
A. All cells arise from preexisting organelles

B. All living cells require water for survival.

C. All living things are composed of cells.

D. Cells are the basic unit and function of life.

5. From what organism did Robert Hooke discovered the box-like

A B C D
structures he later called cell?

A. Animals C. Bacteria

B. Plants D. Protists

A. Engage
ACTIVTY 1
This activity will help you think about your previous knowledge on cells. How  well do you know
cells? Recall any words/ideas that are related to cells and answer  the following graphic
organizer.

Basic unit of life

Building blocks
of all living Responsible for
things the body’s
function

CELL
Bodies
Smallest unit of hereditary
life material

Microscopic in

ACTIVITY 2

BACTERIA ANIMALS VIRUS

1. From which organism/s do you  think this belong?

I think that this photo belongs to a plant because this

looks like something you see on laminated woods where
the natural imprints of woods are being used as design.

2. What made you think so?

I feel like if we are going to look at a plant on a microscopic level we will see
cells shaped like boxes and it what has been taught to us since grade school
that the discover of cell came from an observation of a wine cork where cells
are fist seen as box shaped.

1. From which organism/s do you  think this belong?

At first glance I knew that this is a picture of animal cells.

2. What made you think so?

What made me say that this are animal cells is that they look like the
cells in the human body.

1. From which organism/s do you  think this belong?

The picture shows the cell of bacteria.

2. What made you think so?

Aside from the letter above the picture stating “animalcules” I can also picture out that cells of
bacteria sort of look like this.

ACTIVITY 3
Choose from the box below which fits BEST the following statements. Write the letter of the
correct answer in the space provided.

A. All living things are made up of cells

B. Cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things

C. Living cells come only from other living cells

A 1. After viewing samples of various plants and animal tissues and

some bacteria under the microscope, all samples contained cell.

B 2. Skin cells undergoing mitosis for wound healing.

C 3. Under the microscope, onion root tip tissue shows various cells
undergoing cell division.

B 4. Cells take in nutrients from food and carry out important

functions for the body.

B 5. Single-celled bacteria in the small intestine break down

substances in food that cannot be digested, such as fiber and some
starches and sugars.

Write true if the statement is correct and write false if the statement is wrong.
True 1. The cell is the smallest independent living unit.
False 2. Matthias Schleiden disproved the spontaneous generation
theory.

True 3. Cells evolve overtime to create new cells.

True 4. All living organisms are composed of at least one cell.
False 5. Under the microscope, Robert Hooke observed cells of a living
plant cell.

REFLECT
What is the historical and scientific importance of the discovery of cells by
Robert Hooke?
The discovery of cell by Robert Hooke has open doors to many studies that made our lives even
better. Even with the simple discovery that there are tiny building blocks that made up our
body we are able to understand how our body functions, how diseases can be cured and how
genetics work. Cell might be the microscopic in size but it has a lot of functions to do.
What have I learned?
I have learned that there were numerous of people who were behind the discovery of cell and
were studying the different parts of cell even with the limited materials they have way back
hundred of years ago.

What are my questions regarding the topic?

The topic was clear and informative, I don’t have any question at all.
