Direction: Read and answer the following questions. Show your solutions (if necessary) for the problems
being stated.Write your answers on a separate sheet and send it via Google Classroom.

1. If you lift a box up three stories, how much work do you do compared to lifting a box up only one
story?
-You will do 3 times more work when lifting a box up three stories compared to lifting a box up
one story.
2. Richardson pulls a toy 3.0 m across the floor by a string, applying a force of 0.50 N. During the
first meter, the string makes an angle of 30 with the
0
horizontal direction. What is the total
amount of work done by Richardson on the toy?
W=F*d
W=0.50*1cos30
W=0.43J
3. After finishing his lab report, Carlo pulls his 75 kg body out of the study room chair and climbs
up the 5.0 m high flight of stairs to his bedroom. How much work does Carlo do in going to his
bedroom?
F = mass x acceleration
F = (75kg) (9.8m/s^2)
F = 735 N

W = Force x distance
W = (735N) (5m)
W = 3675 J
4. An object has a mass of 5 kg . Calculate its potential energy 3 m above  the ground.
     PE = mgh
     PE = (5)(9.81)(3)
     PE = 147.15 Nm
5. Calculate the kinetic energy of a 1000 kg car travelling at 60 km/hr.
    v = (60 ×1000) / 3600
    v = 50 / 3 m/s
   K.E.= 1/2 (1000kg)(50/3)^2
    K.E.= 1 / 2 (1000) (2500/9)
    K.E.=1/2 (2500000/9)
    K.E.=1250000/9 J
6. A van has a mass of 3000 kg and a car has a mass of 1500 kg. If both are travelling at the
same speed, how would you compare their kinetic energy?
1. Van
K.E.= 3000 kg (9.8 m/s)^2
= 3000 kg (96.04 m^2/s^2)
= 288,120/2
=144,060 J
Car
K.E. = 1500 kg (9.8 m/s)^2
= 1500 kg (96.04 m^2/s^2)
= 144,060/2
= 72,030 J
7. Andy and Bryan each lift a 150 kg barbell at a height of 1.5 m off the ground. Andy lifts his barbell
in 1 second and Bryan lifts his barbell in 2 seconds.
a. Who does more work?
Both of them do the same work.
b. Who exerts more power
Andy exerts more power than Bryan.

ANDY
Work = PE
Work = mgh = (150 kg)(9.8 m/s²)(1.5 m)
Work = 2205 Joules
Power = Work/time
Power = 2205 J/ 1.0s
Power = 2205 Watts
BRYAN
Work = PE
Work = mgh = (150 kg)(9.8 m/s²)(1.5 m)
Work = 2205 Joules
Power = Work/time
Power = 2205 J/ 2.0s
Power = 1102.5 Watts
