Title: The Soul of the Great Bell

STORY FRAME
2nd Quarter

The story takes place in nearly 500 years ago, in the Tower of the Great Bell; also known as
Ta-chung sz’, while in the city of Kwang-tchau-fu/Peking.

Kouan-Yu is a character in the story who is a worthy mandarin and father of his dazzling
daughter, Ko- Ngai, he is also one of the officials of Yong-Lo, the emperor of Ming Dynasty and
commanded to cast a great bell of an enormous size that the sound could be heard for one
hundred li.
Ko Ngai is another character in the story who is the dazzling daughter of Kouan Yu. She was
the one who sacrificed her life so that the bell would be completed and at the same time spared
her father from death.

A problem occurs when Kouan-Yu and his co-workers were assigned to make a bell with the
metals needed to cast it, but they unfortunately failed while the Emperor became very furious
and angry about this that, if Kouan-Yu fails again to make the bell one more time, Kouan-Yu
will be beheaded and sentenced to death.

After that, Kouan-Yu’s daughter, who is Ko-Ngai, offered her own life and soul to the
burning/casting metals so that the bell will be finished, and to also prevent his father, Kouan-Yu,
from getting beheaded.

The problem is solved when, Ko-Ngai sacrificed her own life for her father’s sake and jumped
into the burning metals while they gathered the virgin’s blood and Ko-Ngai suddenly passed
away.

The story ends with Ko-Ngai sacrificing her own life, not only did the bell became perfect in its
needed requirements for the king, but also the soul of Ko-Ngai was put in the bell so the bell can
be very pleasant to hear and can be heard properly. Her father was spared to death exchange for a
loss of a loved one. Until then, it was called “The Soul of the Great Bell” because of the sacrifice
the daughter did.
