March 2011

Principal’s Corner

Welcome Back! Hope you all had an enjoyable Spring Break! We start the third quarter
finishing our second (of three) round of HSA testing. Our students are making progress and we
are especially optimistic about their math gains at this point in time. In several weeks we will
begin the third and final round. Our lower grades (K-2) will also begin their testing period, I am
confident we will do our very best!

Our 5th graders had their annual overnight camping excursion early this school year. They went
to Camp Erdman on March 8 – March 10, 2011 and students were able to experience new things
and participate in many different activities. I would like to thank the 5th grade teachers and
volunteer chaperones for planning, and making this an extremely memorable school activity for
our students.

Likelike Elementary School has been selected to receive new playground equipment. This new
equipment will be erected in front of the administration building and be used by the third grade
classes. Construction for this project will begin sometime in April and details will be sent home
as it becomes available.

It has come to the school’s attention there have been cars parking in residential driveways on Iao
Lane before and after-school. Please do not park in driveways, even if you think you will be “real
quick”, as this could cause an inconvenience for the residents. Thank you very much for your
cooperation and understanding in this matter.

I would like to call attention to a few dates:

March 26, 2011: Celebrate Likelike - 5:00-8:00

April 5 and 6, 2011: Change in Bell Schedule due to District Wide Teacher Meeting

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 will be a Wednesday bell schedule which means students will be released
at 1:00 due to a district wide teacher meeting. The following day, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 will
be a regular bell schedule which means students will be released at 2:15. A+ service will
continue as scheduled on both days.

We are looking forward to a wonderful third quarter. We hope to see you at the Celebrate
Likelike event on Saturday, March 26! Thank you for all your support!

Sincerely,

Stacey S. Oshio
