Question 1 (20%). What does it mean that a function u is differentiable at x0 = 0 and at

x1 = 2021. What are u0 (0) and u0 (2021) equal to? I expect definitions involving limits!
Question 2 (50%). Compute the derivatives of the following functions:

(a) ln2 x

(b) x2 + 1
x
(c) √
1 − x2

(d) cos x · sin x

(e) ln(ln(ln x)))

Question 3 (10% + 20%). (a) Let f : R 7→ R be an even function, that is f (−x) = f (x)
for all x ∈ R. Assume furthermore that f is differentiable. Give an example of such
f . Then prove that f 0 (0) = 0 with the aid of chain rule.

b With the f from (a), consider now the function

x3
g : R 7→ R, g(x) = ( + 1)f (x) + x
3
and prove that g 0 (0) = 1.
