COGNITIVE ERGONOMICS

The theory of signal detection includes detailed terminology and graphic notation
in the midst of ambiguity to evaluate decision making. For us, in terms of sensory
studies, the general method of signal detection theory has direct application. But it also
provides a way for several different forms of decision problems to be analyzed.

We therefore conclude that, Signal Detection Theory (SDT) was originally

designed to describe the ability of an observer to decide what will be the possible
scenario/outcomes that could happen in that given situation/conditions. SDT presumes
that performance is not perfect and describes how well, given the situation, observers
can discriminate or recognize certain signals and could give possible outcomes to
different conditions. Participants in recognition memory studies need to determine
whether or not a particular stimulus has been given. In our decision-making, there would
be more than one potential outcome, however we choose one, provided the criteria, we
can judge it as a participant based on the realization or on our personal experience. In
this capacity, SDT captures sensitivity such that greater sensitivity means that the
individual is better able to discriminate against what potential outcomes or scenarios
could occur on that condition.

This is a theory which tell us that how men response to one or more than one
signals against the noises in the background or response to one conditions or
situations. And the men response depends on possible outcomes to differentiate
between the stimulus and noises and it depends on the criterion. It has a significant
application in our daily life and helps in future prediction. The stakes are also very high
in both medicine and intelligence research. That can generate considerable stress for
the individual making the predictions and detections, combined with time pressure. This
study is important as the medical examples show in this activity, thorough assessment
of radiologist tumor decisions on the CT scan and procedures using the methods
suggested in these circumstances have greatly improved medical results. Judgments of
future outcomes are likely to be focused on a few dramatic, newsworthy, atypical
incidents that are not reliable or something that does not happen in fact without testing
the consistency of the many decisions a person or organization makes.
