I feel like my color choices were essentially The colors I chose were in the shades of grey, yellow, and blue, aiming to represent the significant
effective. elements of the book: Sun, Rain, Isolation. However, in the resulting product, the yellow and blue
became more evident in the cover because of its contrasting color and symbolism that I decided should
shine out during the process. The background is in a shade of dark blue with the rain covering the whole
canvas. I wanted the blue to represent the sense of sadness and loneliness in Margot’s surroundings.
Whereas the bright yellow on the umbrella and the light under it is meant to represent her precious
connection with the sun. She fears the touch of rain on her and values the memory of sunlight on her
skin, therefore the two yellow elements denote a sense of safety within the sun’s presence. Lastly, the
shades of grey were more incorporated into the cover by using an airbrush to color a layer of grey over
some part of the drawings and fading its color (e.g. Margot’s blue dress was faded by a layer of grey) in
order to provide a dull vibe across the cover.
I feel like my choice of font was corresponding to My font, Tallows Sans Brush, is consistent with the style of my drawings. The lines and coloring of my
the theme of the cover. images were simple but aesthetic with its evident lines and painting. I didn’t use a simple paintbrush on
my digital app to make sure that the style matched the Tallow Sans Brush concept of plain brush strokes
that gives an artistic sensation and blends the text in with the images.
I do feel like my cover is expressing my big idea My big idea words were Margot, Children, Person vs. Society, Sun, Rain, Umbrella, Empathy, and
words efficiently. Sadness. The cover shows the implicit interpretation of the book by showing Margot separated by the
layers of rain upon her. She is in the care and shelter of an umbrella with the sun’s significant color and
light to depict the value of the sun to her as the only one in her class to have ever experienced the sun
on Earth. Her body position is a body language of isolation, sadness, and despair as she is crouching
with her hands covering her ears, not wanting to hear the sound of the rain or the sound of others. The
audience can learn from the cover that Margot is the protagonist, the children and the rain are the
antagonists that Margot is trying to escape from, and the sun and its light is her comfort zone in the
midst of her loneliness and painful times. The little elements of symbolism would draw the audience’s
attention of why she must hide from the rain and close her ears from the children, efficiently and
effectively bringing the audience to reading the book with a little comprehension of the book in their own
perception.
