Georgia began issuing the CDL in April 1990

pounds. Includes vehicles in Class C.
Class C Can also be non-commercial. Any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating not in excess of 26,000 pounds, or any such

issued only if the vehicle is designed to carry sixteen or more passengers (including the driver), or utilized to transport hazardous
materials in quantities that require placarding.
Non-Commercial Classifications
Note: Effective March 25, 2011, the Department of Driver Services (DDS) implemented a License Class change for drivers of non-commercial
motor vehicles. Prior to that date, Class A and B licenses were either Commercial or Non-Commercial. Now anyone who previously would
have been issued a non-commercial Class A driver’s license is issued a non-commercial Class E license. Non-commercial Class B driver’s
licenses changed to a non-commercial Class F driver’s license. The qualifications, testing procedures, and issuance process for each class of
license remain the same. Vehicles which require a non-commercial Class E or F license are agricultural vehicles, military vehicles, and
firefighter /emergency vehicles.
Class E [Was Class A] Any combination of vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being

About the Super Speeder Conviction

• If DDS receives notification of a conviction of speeding 75 mph on a two-lane road or highway, or 85 mph on any road or highway, the
customer will be notified by first class mail of the $200 Super Speeder fee, and will have 120 days from the date of the notice to pay the
fee to DDS.
• Failure to pay the Super Speeder fee to DDS within 120 days will result in the suspension of the customer’s license, permit, or driving
privilege in Georgia. The customer must pay a $50 reinstatement fee in addition to the $200 Super Speeder fee in order to reinstate their
license, permit, or driving privilege.
• Payment of Super Speeder fees and reinstatement fees can be made in person, by mail, and through the DDS website.
• Out of state drivers are subject to the same requirements as Georgia drivers.
• There are no points assessed, just a fine.
