Violin 1 Groundwork

The recommended book for the Foundation Skills Musicianship class is: "Team Strings"
by Christopher Bull, Olive Goodborn and Richard Duckett.
Published by Faber Music.
You will need the version of the book for your instrument: Violin, Viola, Cello, or Double Bass.

The note D Crotchets - they last for one beat

Music is written on a Stave. This is a set of five lines and four spaces.

Minims - they last for two beats

        

The lines which go vertically all the way down across the stave are called Bar Lines.
They divide a line of notes into sets. Each bar has the required number of beats as stated in the Time Signature.

This 4/4 Time signature means that every bar must add up to 4 crotchet beats.

A silent beat is called a Rest.


This example has a crotchet rest in the second bar and a minim rest in the final bar.
