Assignment Number 1

LESSON 1: THE BASICS OF COMMUNICATION

TASK 1:
1. What concepts or ideas about communication are common among the
definitions? Write them down in the thought bubble.

Communication is the exchange of facts,

information, ideas, proposals, instructions,
requests, and grievances from one person
to another.

2. How similar or different are the previous definition from your

understanding of communication?
Communication is simply the act of transferring information from
one place, person or group to another. Every communication
involves at least one sender, a message and a recipient. This may
sound simple, but communication is actually a very complex
subject.
TASK 2:
What are the similarities among the three models of communication?
The similarities of linear model and interactive model is both of their
sender carries the conversation. While the similarities of Linear and
transactional is both of the message travels from sender to receiver.

Among the three models, which model accurately reflects the communication
process in the real world?
I think among the three model accurately reflects the
communication process in the real world is the transactional model,
This model is what we always use because it is a two way process
where a sender can also be a receiver and the receiver can also be a
sender.

Can you cite a specific situation or a personal experience?

In transactional model, efficiency and reliability of communicated

message also depends on the medium used. For example, the same
message might not be perceived by a person the same way when it
is send through a phone and when it is provided face to face. It is
because of possible loss of message on a phone call or absence of
gestures.

TASK 3:
1. In understanding communication fully, what are the four key terms that
need to be included? What does each term imply in relation to
communication?
Those four key terms need to be included are encoding, medium of
transmission, decoding, and feedback. There are also two other
factors in the process, and those two factors are present in the form
of the sender and the receiver.

2. What are the two levels of meaning? Differentiate one from the other by
citing specific real-life examples.
The two levels of meaning are "root" or "constant" semantic features
that characterize individual verbs, and another for the "event
structure templates" or "thematic cores that are shared by all the
verbs in a given class.

3. Why is ethics in communication important?

In the subject of communications, ethics is critical because if the

public perceives someone as untrustworthy, it might jeopardize a
profession's reputation. Making ethical decisions leads to the
development of trusting and loving connections with others, which
leads to a fulfilling life.
