 About Shaastra
Shaastra is the annual technical festival of the Indian Institute of
Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, India. The Sanskrit word ‘Shaastra’
means science and the festival accordingly consists of various
engineering, science and technology competitions, summits, lectures,
video conferences, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops.

The festival is traditionally held over four days and four nights during the
first week of January. It has so far seen twenty one editions, having
started in its current avatar in the year 2000. With the festival happening
in the heart of Chennai city, Shaastra attracts participation from all over
India, and seeks to provide collegiate students with a platform to
showcase their scientific and engineering talents.

Shaastra is entirely student managed and is the first such event in the
world to be ISO 9001:2015 certified for implementing a Quality
Management System. It is one of Asia's largest completely student-run
techno-managerial festivals.

in and to create an impact on society by providing a networking platform for its participants to

ARCHITECTURE SUMMIT - SHAASTRA 2021

Archi-Tech Summit encourages stakeholders to come up with solutions to serve crucial

issues in the field of sustainability, urban planning and adaptability by using AR, VR,
realistic illustrations and 3D rendering for interactive and immersive visualizations.

The summit intends to collaborate with ACE firms, startups and architectural
aficionados to discuss and deliberate modern-day problems such as adaptability of
architecture to pandemics, exploring green energy-efficient architecture for
sustainability, and many more by providing the delegates and partners with a platform
to present their projects developed around advancements in architectural technology.
 Last year, BLINK, Shaastra 2020's social initiative focused on
the education and social inclusion of visually impaired middle
school students by transforming their pedagogy. BLINK had
various new initiatives under its umbrella, which includes 3-D
printed Braille puzzles, a solution that makes Braille learning

goal to make a lasting impact on society. Pledge
a Book, SYNK and Bubbles are some of our most
successful social campaigns and we strive to
create even greater impact in 2019. Endorsed by
celebrities and covered by mass media, the
effort put into these social campaigns is
something unique to Shaastra.
Events and
Competitions
Events and competitions are the oldest
verticals in Shaastra. Today, this vertical
encompasses 60+ events under 7 diverse
verticals. Being the stage for talented
engineers and future leaders, this vertical
engages more than 15,000 participants every
year. Events are conducted both offline and
online, culminating in wonderful finale during
the 4 days of Shaastra.

Learning by Doing. Shaastra Workshops provide a wonderful opportunity

for students to get their hands dirty on a variety of subjects ranging from
Deep Learning to Finance. They have grown over the years to become a
formidable platform for companies, professionals and academia to
connect with students of similar interests. Shaastra hosts 5 company
hosted-workshops and as many as 15 student-run workshops every year
in various fields of engineering and in 2018, these workshops saw a
footfall of 5000+.
