TIPOS DE PROCESOS INDUSTRIALES

Process Automation

The automated control of process manufacturing is called process automation.

Process manufacturing refers to the blending and treatment of raw materials by various
means that leads to production of a continuous stream of product such as chemicals, pulp
and paper, gas and oil.

The systems used to automate and control these manufacturing steps are collectively known
as process automation. For customers, maximizing production efficiency is among the most
important requirements of a process automation solution.

ABB is continually developing applications that let plants and equipment run safely at
maximum output, consistently producing high-quality products while helping to reduce
downtime and variable costs such as labor, maintenance and raw materials.

Discrete Automation

Products are manufactured by assembling component parts and subsystems which are then
incorporated into larger systems.

Discrete manufacturing involves the assembly of component parts to construct products that
can be measured in units, such as automobiles, household appliances and computer
systems.

This contrasts with process automation, which typically produces a continuous stream of
product, such as chemicals, paper, foods and beverages, etc. Discrete manufacturers may
use both programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCSs) to
operate and control the motors, conveyors, robots, inspection systems, and similar devices
which work together to complete the manufacturing process.

ABB offers customers both proven the "building blocks" for constructing the manufacturing
system, as well as the software and hardware solutions necessary for them to interact
efficiently.

Batch Automation

Batch processing involves the production or processing of products in finite batches, rather
than in a continuous production process.

These batches can be measured in liters, gallons, kilograms, etc., and are often used in
products like pharmaceuticals, foods and beverages, and specialty chemicals. Batch
production is a flexible manufacturing tool, allowing multiple products to be produced on a
single production line.

Batch automation must accurately process the correct amounts of the right ingredients in
order to create a quality product, then be able to start all over again to configure a completely
different product using different ingredients and processing steps. Consistency and
repeatability across multiple batches is critical, along with maintenance and retrieval of the
various "recipes" used to create product variations.

ABB provides robust software solutions to achieve these goals, while supporting customers
in the validation of manufacturing processes to meet regulatory guidelines such as those
enforced in the food and drug industries.
