Lesson 1
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
 multiply numbers up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-
digit numbers without or with regrouping.

What I Need to Know

The ability to solve simple multiplication problem is very helpful for
you in everyday life. In math, multiplying means repeated addition. The
parts of a multiplication sentence are the multiplicand, multiplier, and
product. A multiplicand is a factor that indicates the number to be
multiplied. A multiplier is a factor that indicates how many times the
multiplicand is to be multiplied. The answer in multiplication is called
product.

What’s In (Critical Thinking)

Multiply the following to solve for the product.

What’s New (Communication, Collaboration, Character)

Vincent delivered bottles of water for the barangay officials who

serve as frontliners in their barangay. He delivered 231 bottles of water in a
day. How many bottles of water can he deliver in 23 days?
What values did Vincent show in the situation? Explain.

What is It (Communication, Collaboration, Character)

Answer the following:

1. Who delivered bottles of water?

2. How many bottles of water can Vincent delivered in a day?
3. What is asked in the problem?
4. What will you do to solve the problem?
I. Here are the steps that will help us multiply numbers without
regrouping.

Therefore, he can deliver 5 013 bottles of water in 23 days.

4
Mod3Q1W3: Number and Number Sense

What’s More (Critical Thinking)

Find the product.

Now, let us have this problem:

Vincent and his brother extended their help to the affected families
of Covid19. They delivered 108 sacks of rice in each barangay. How
many sacks of rice were delivered if they distributed it to 24 barangays?

What kind of values did Vincent and his brother implies?

How can this values be helpful to someone? (Character)

What is It (Communication, Collaboration, Character)

Answer the following:

1. What did Vincent and his brother do?

2. How many sacks of rice did they deliver in each barangay?
3. How many barangays have received sacks or rice?
4. What is asked in the problem?
5. What will you do to solve the problem?

5
Mod3Q1W3: Number and Number Sense

II. Here are the steps on how to multiply numbers with regrouping:
A. Using the short method

B. Using the lattice method

 To find the product of 108 and 24, use 2 by 3 lattice, position
the factors as shown below:

 Multiply each digit above by each digit on the side. Write the
digit’s product as shown below:

6
Mod3Q1W3: Number and Number Sense

 Add down the numbers along the diagonals. Regroup when

necessary.

The answer is read counter clockwise, 2 592.

Therefore, Vincent and his brother delivered 2 592 sacks or rice.

What’s More (Critical Thinking)

B. Find the product using the short method

What I Have Learned

A. To multiply a 3-digit number by a 2-digit number without
regrouping:
1. Multiply by the ones of the multiplier with the multiplicand to
get the first partial product.
2. Multiply by the tens of the multiplier with the multiplicand to
get the first partial product.
3. Add the partial products to get the final product.
B. To multiply a 3-digit number by a 2-digit number with
regrouping:
1. Multiply by the ones of the multiplier by the multiplicand
then by the tens to get the first partial product.
2. Regroup when necessary.
3. Then, add the partial products to get the final product.
.

What Can I Do (Critical Thinking,

Lesson 2
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
 estimate products of 3- to 4-digit numbers with
reasonable results

Introduction:
Estimation is finding a number that is close enough to the right
answer. Estimating is an important skill. Without estimation skills, you
are not able to determine if your answer is within a reasonable range.
You will be able use mental math to more quickly arrive at a reasonable
solution.

What’s In (Critical Thinking)

Estimate the product. Choose your answer from the box.

What’s New (Communication, Character)

Rico added the money he received from the government in his

small business. He sells mango for only PhP 21 each. If 194 mangoes
were sold, about how much money will Rico earn?

What kind of values did Rico show in the situation? Explain.(Character)

What is It (Communication, Critical Thinking)

Answer the following:

 How much does a mango cost?

 How many mangoes were sold?
 What is asked in the problem?
 What phrase in the problem indicates that an estimated product is
being asked for?
 What are the given facts?
 What will you do to solve the problem?

Let us study how to estimate the product.

Step 1: Round the multiplicand and multiplier to the highest/greatest

place value.

11
Mod3Q1W3: Number and Number Sense

Step 2: Multiply the rounded factors to get the estimated product.

200
X 20
4 000
or

Multiply the non-zero digits. Annex as many terminal zeroes in the

products as there in the factors. (2 and 3 are non-zero digits)

200
X 20
4 000
Therefore, Rico will earn about PhP4 000.

*You can find the actual product to check if the estimated product is
reasonable.

(1 x 194)
(2 x 194)
(actual product)

*Notice that the estimated product is close to the actual product.
