Sexual harassment has always been there, but it was outwardly spoken about in India only after the Me

Too Movement that started in the US in 2018. Since then the impact of the movement has been such
that several women coming out in the open citing and sharing their ‘Me Too’ experiences with the world
and on social media platforms, respectively.

In India, women have never been confident and bold enough to speak about their sexual harassment
publicly mainly for the fear of social stigma, reverse victimization, and possible ostracism. However,
after the movement, several prominent women many from the Bollywood Film Industry like Tanushree
Dutta, Amyra Dastur, Soni Razdan, Kangna Ranaut, and Tina Datta to name a few.

The problem in India is that there is no authorized agency unlike the US, to probe the allegations.
Moreover, the Indian laws can penalize the prosecution (women) for defamation if they are unable to
prove their allegations.

The solution lies in taking quick action against the perpetrators and stricter laws in favor of women. The
authorities need to sensitize adequately so that women are more confident in talking about such issues
openly.
