Berlo's Model

 Berlo’s model follows the SMCR model. This model is not specific to any particular
communication.
 Berlo’s model includes a number of factors under each of the elements:
 Berlo’s SMCR Model of Communication presents the communication process in its
simplest form. The model consists of four component that are each influenced by
different factors. To ensure the message is conveyed as effectively as possible, the
sender and the receiver must share some common ground.

SENDER- The person or the source from whom the message begins is the sender of the
message.
MESSAGE- The actual substance or the context of communication is called a message.
CHANNEL- Medium, which is used to send the message, is known as a channel.
RECEIVER- The receiver is at the other end of the communication process at the exact
opposite end of the sender.

Examples:

Ambher is going to watch a horror movie alone so he invites his friends because his afraid to
watch it alone

ambher: The phone rings... Hey guys, you want to watch a horror movie? Come over so we can
watch it.

Basti: Sure bro expect me to be there.

Aldrin: Sure man, make sure that movie is going to be scary! HAHA!

Ambher: Sure man, I'm scared to watch it alone. HAHAHA! Come over now, I'm making us food
and I'm going to buy drinks. See you later.

Criticism of Berlo’s SMCR model of communication:

 There is a lack of feedback.

 The effects are practically unknown.
 It does not mention the barriers to communication.
 There is no room for noise.
