The Practical Experience Record Sheet is a true representation of my
own involvement in the task described.
1. Restorative Procedure Carried Out:

Guidance Notes:
Students should state the procedure to be carried out.
Students should explain how the clinincal area was made ready for this particular
procedure, how they assisted both the clinician and the patient during the procedure.
Students should describe the patient on which the treatment was carried out.
PATIENT INFORMATION: Sex: Male Age: 22 year old - NHS patient; Medical/Social
History form up to date and signed; Health: Good. Patient consent: Gained, plan signed.

TREATMENT INFORMATION:  Restoration procedure on Lower Left 6 occlusal surface

CLINICAL AREA AND PREPARATION:


First think in the morning is place a clean uniform and footwear. Hand wash following the
correct sequence by NHS .

Make sure my hair is been tied back. I wear the correct P.P.E (Gloves, Mask,Goggles)

EQUIPMENT SWITCHED ON AND CHECKED:


- Lights
- Chair
- Dental unit & light
- Computer (Sign in with the dentist)
- Ligh cure
- Amalgamator
- X-ray machine
- Autoclaves (type B and N/S)
- R.O water machine
- Compressor
- Pouching machine
- Ultrasonic Machine
- R.O Machine
- Water Distiller (if necessary)
- Assistina Machine

- Dentist chair dental bottle is filled with purified water (RO machine) and flush water lines
for 2 minutes.
- Work surfaces wiped with alcohol free disinfectant and a microfiber cloth and applied
disposable covers.
- Surgery zoned into clean and dirty areas with a decontamination room adjoined.
- Put water and disinfectant solution into dirty instrument container and keep in dirty zone of
the surgery away from clean zone.
- All surfaces in decontamination room are wiped with disinfectant and wipes and microfibre
clothes.
- The ultrasonic machine is filled up with clean water and correct amount of ultrasonic
cleaner (30 ml of solution), then I switch the machine on for 7 minutes at 30 degrees
centigrade.
- Both autoclaves (type B and N/S) are clean and wipe the inside and door seal; after drained
all the dirty water I fill the water tanks with purified water from distiller water machine.
- Is placed the helix device and strip in vacuum autoclave and press "B" cycle then start
- Is placed sterilizer class 6 strip into "N" cycle non-vacuum autoclave and press 134 degrees
cycle.
- Remove items from cold sterilizer bath, rinse and dry.
- I check day list already printed from the reception, and ensure there are enough exam and
treatment instruments/trays set up for the day.
- Check if all lab work has been collected from dentist box.
- Dentist and myself follow the 13 steps for hand washing done by NHS, placed new PPE
(gloves, mask and my safety glasses).

PROCEDURE:
- I bring the patient into the surgery and provide bib and safety glasses, always make sure
and ask if patient is comfortable to start the procedure.

- The procedure starts when patient is already numb, after taken the local anaethetic (2 %
Lidocaine 1:100,000). Whilst dentist start drilling, I get away all tooth decay and I keep all
mouth area dry and clean from bites of decay aspirating with fast suction tube and ejector
saliva.

- Cavity is now prepared, I pass the Etch gel to the dentist to clean inside of the cavity, etch
gel stays 15 to 20 sec, then is washed using the 3 in 1 metal tip, in same time is used the fast
suction to clean the mouth. A drop of bond on a disposable micro brush is ready to pass to
the dentist and then shine the light cure for 30 sec.
- I pass to the dentist the composite shade A2 and after packing into the tooth cavity, again is
shined the light cure for 30 sec.

- When the filling is completed, dentist shaped and check the bit with the articulate paper.

- Composite filling procedure is done, I let patient rinse their mouth.

2. Aim of the Procedure:

Students should state the overall aim of the process.
- Fillings are used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay, or otherwise damaged
surfaces of the teeth. In many cases, individuals with enamel loss resulting in tooth
sensitivity will notice a significant improvement or complete elimination of sensitivity once
the appropriate dental filling material is placed.

- The choice between the two materials, amalgam (silver color) and composite (white); will
depend on strength and aesthetics.

- These days we use more and more composite as technological advances have improved
these materials a lot in recent years.

3. Reflective Account:

Students should identify their strengths and weaknesses during the procedure and describe
any action they would take to address weaknesses in the future, if required.
STRENGTHS
All materials/instruments was passed to the dentist on time. Good concentration.

WEAKNESSES
In beginning I forgot to put the glasses on the patient. Dentist always need to remember me.

Error
Lidocaine is almost always used with a vasoconstrictor of 1:80000

In all other ways this is a competent and considered pers - keep up the good work
