Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the literacy and numeracy skills of intermediate pupils in

relation to academic performance as basis for enhancement.

Specifically, it will address the following questions:

1. What is the literacy and numeracy skills of respondents in relation to academic performance if

they are grouped according to the following:

a. gender

b. grade level

2. Is there a significant difference in the levels of academic performance of intermediate pupils

when grouped according to the following variables:

a. literacy skills

b. numeracy skills

3. Is there a significant relationship between literacy skills and academic performance of pupils?

4. Is there a significant relationship between numeracy skills and academic performance of

pupils?

5. What recommendations can be suggested based on the findings of the study?

 II. Formulate the null hypotheses based on these two statements of the

problem.

1. Is there a significant difference in the levels of academic

performance of intermediate pupils when grouped according
to gender and grade level?

2. Is there a significant relationship between literacy skills

and academic performance and numeracy skills and academic
performance of pupils?

 There is no significant difference in the levels of academic

performance of intermediate pupils when grouped according to
gender and grade level.

 There is no significant relationship between literacy skills

I have been through a research subject during my college years
but back then, research wasn’t that rigorous in terms of
complying to its proper format and style. I am extremely thankful
that I have once again experienced the challenge along with the
knowledge that comes from learning Research once again in this
MAED journey.

This research subject is filled with learnings I can take home

and share to my nephews and nieces who are also undergoing a
research prerequisite on their tertiary education. Not only it is
fun and engaging but also not pressuring, which in return, gave
me a change to fully nourish the lesson in mind. I would like to
thank my professor for such a wonderful and fun-filled journey in
Research. MAED MATH will never be this engaging without this
subject.
I will get to use the learnings I have acquired in this subject
in the next step of my Masters where I will get to conduct an
actual research paper.
