Performance Task #2: Hypothesis Testing For One-Sample Proportion Z-Test
Performance Task #2: Hypothesis Testing For One-Sample Proportion Z-Test
Problem:
A study from a previous year found out that 60% of the Grade 10 students from a certain
high school are not satisfied with the food sold in their school canteen. A sample of 500 Grade
10 students are chosen and was found out that 275 of them are not satisfied with the food sold in
their canteen. Using 0.05 level of significance, test if there is enough evidence proving that there
is a change in the percentage of students who are not satisfied with the food sold at the school
canteen.
Alternative Hypothesis
Ha : p ≠ 0.60
The percentage of students who are not satisfied with the food sold in the school canteen is not
equal to 60%.
Step 2: Choose a level of significance
α=0.05
The level of significance to be used is 0.05.
Answer:
𝑧 = −2.2822

Step 5: Make a decision
Since the absolute value of the computed z-value of -2.2822 falls on the rejection region, then the
null hypothesis is rejected at 0.05 level of significance.
