SCOPE

1.1 This specification covers the design of orifice flanges.

1.2 Metering runs shall be fabricated in accordance with ECS 3-6-1.

1.3 An asterisk (*) indicates that additional information is provided by ESSO in an

addendum to this specification.

1.4 A pound sign (#) indicates that ESSO review/approval is required before design is
finalized or equipment is purchased.

SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Table 1 lists the codes, standards and specifications which shall be used with this
specification.

2.2 The equipment and materials used shall conform to the latest editions, revisions and
addenda of the codes, standards and regulations listed in Table 1.

3.2 Flanges shall be the welding neck type.

3.3 Ring type joint flanges shall be limited to the sizes given in Table 4.

3.4 For raised face flanges, flange face finish shall be per ASME B16.5.

3.5 Pressure taps shall be provided in each flange as follows:

a. Two holes shall be drilled radially through the flange, spaced at 180 degrees and
centred between any two adjacent bolt holes. Hole diameter shall be as per
Table 5.

b. The centre line of the holes shall be 24 mm (15/16 in.) from the flange face for
raised faced flanges and 20 mm (3/4 in.) from flange for ring type joint flanges.

c. Holes shall be tapped on the flanged edge with internal taper pipe thread
corresponding to the specified flange class, as per Table 6.

d. Tapped holes shall be plugged with solid, round shank steel plugs.

3.6 Jackscrews shall be provided as follows:

a. Each flange shall have a machine bolt mounted in a hole drilled in the flange at
90 degrees from the pressure taps for use as a jackscrew. Machine bolt shall be
per ASTM A307, Grade B, with regular square head and with one heavy hex nut.

b. A slot shall be provided in the flange, 1.5 mm (1/16 in.) wider than the width
across flats of the nut. The depth of the slot shall admit the nut so that there is
no interference with the joining of the flanges when bolted together without
orifice plate.
