Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I’m very delighted that you could

make it today. As you can see on the screen, my topic today is noun
clauses. Let me just start by introducing myself. I’m Trinh Thi Phuong
Uyen, my student id is 20204184. Now, let’s move to my presentation
outline. I have three points of discussion: forms of noun clauses,
functions of noun clauses and common problems with noun clauses.
First, we should be understand what is noun clause ? A noun clause
functions as a noun in a sentence. It follows a linking or copular verb to
describe or modify the subject of the sentence. It has 3 forms.

A noun clause can be an independent clause a complete thought that
stands on its own as a complete sentence, or a dependent clause that is
not a complete thought that is part of a sentence that includes an
independent clause. Example:
-- The movie is on TV tonight. (independent clause)
-- That I like (dependent clause, it has a subject "I" and a verb "like" but is not a
complete sentence)

A noun phrase is a group of words based on a noun or a pronoun that


functions as a unit as the subject of a sentence or a clause and as the
object of a verb or a preposition.

"I brought one of my mother's homemade pies.
"My mother's homemade pies are delicious."

Some noun clauses, especially those that are used as subjects, begin with
"that", which have almost no function in the sentence. In this case, add
the fact or the idea before it.
Question clauses: in noun clauses, even if the main clause is a question,
the dependent clause is always written as an affirmative statement.

For most English learners in general and IELTS learners in particular,
the term noun clause is nothing new. The use of noun clauses is very
common in everyday conversations,
