The Smog Action Digital Rally

An Event by Climate Impact PK

*September 24th at 5pm on Zoom

Pretext
For the last 6 months, Climate Impact PK has been mobilizing the youth for tangible smog action. We
began with our Climate Classroom seminars, which were dedicated to giving young activists the
knowledge needed to fight for climate justice. Now, it’s time to take that knowledge to a local scale.

Smog is a pervasive health hazard, caused by a combination of vehicular emissions, industrial emissions,
and waste burning. During our first ever Think Tank Conference, we worked with experienced
environmentalists to have a discussion around policy, science and technology, and adaptation vs.
mitigation. After the insightful conversations from the conference, we’ve put together a report detailing
the ways to go about smog action.

We, the youth, have the power to bring change.

What is the Smog Action Digital Rally?

We are now ready to present our report to various youth environmental initiatives around Lahore. Not
only do we want to showcase this report, but we also want to use it as a template to spark discussion. We
want to assess the ways we can work to lessen emissions within our own school communities.

Following the discussion, we will hear from our guest speakers (Afia Salam, Sara Hayat, Rafay Alam,
Abid Omar.). What do they believe our role in fighting for smog action is? These short speeches will in
turn spark another discussion we can have amongst ourselves.

The rally will conclude with all student participants holding up papers reading ‘#LetLahoreBreathe’. As
part of this continuing campaign, we will check in with the participating environmental societies to see
what strides they are taking at their school.

Objectives
➔ Spark meaningful discussions surrounding smog, with regards to Policy, Science & Technology,
and Adaptation vs. Mitigation.
➔ Get Lahore’s youth involved in fighting the smog crisis collectively.
➔ Work towards small-scale solutions in our communities, then build up to larger reforms.

Our voices matter, let them be heard.
