POST LAB TASK NO # 01

 TITLE:
Forward Biase, Series And Parallel Connection Of Power Diode.

 Lab Objective:
In This lab we will see the following,
 We will see how to design a circuit for high voltage and current.
 We will design a circuit for forward biase and reverse biase of Power Diode.
 Operating principles of a diode
 Characteristic voltage-current curve of a diode
 Operating principles of series and Parallel operation of Power diodes diode
 Getting knowledge of the types of Diodes

 Introduction:
A diode is a semiconductor device that allows electrical current to
flow in one direction only. The diode has two terminals, called the anode and the
cathode.
The diode consists of two layers of semiconducting material. (N-Type Semiconductor and
P-Type Semiconductor)
 A P-type semiconductor layer containing positive charge carriers (holes). The P-
type layer corresponds to the anode (A) terminal of the diode.
 An N-type semiconductor layer containing negative charge carriers (electrons).
The N-type layer corresponds to the cathode (K) terminal of the diode.

 When no voltage is present across the diode terminal the diode act like a

block.
And no current flow the diode like a open switch.
 The voltage at anode Is lower then voltage at cathode the diode is act open switch.
Therefore no current flow through in this . the diode like a reverse biase.

 When voltage of anode is higher then cathode the diode act on conducting state and
current remain forward biase like a closed switch.
 Series Connection Of Power Diode:
Used for voltage increasing capability several
device can be connected in series.
Sum of Vs
Vs = Vd1 + Vd2 +Vd3…
 Parallel Connection Of Power Diode:
It is for high current application two or
more diode can be connected in parallel to increase overall current.

Conclusion:
In this lab we have learnt that how can we increase the current and voltage capability of
power diode by connecting then in series and parallel.
 By connecting diode in parallel it increases the current capability of diode.
 While connecting diode in series it increases the voltage capability of diode.
