The first and most important step in domain trading is to know what sells and the only way

to do this is
through research. Research is very vital if you want to succeed in this business. You must know the current
trends, latest news and updates so that you will be able to make good trading decisions.
Domaining.com, thedomains.com, domaininvesting.com, tldinvestors.com, dnjournal.com and so on, are
popular sites where you can get latest domaining news. The regular mainstream portals do not report about
domaining news except there is a big sale. There are also so many research tools in domaining and I will
treat some of them in this thread.

Domaining news can be gotten from:

Factors To Consider Before Buying A Domain Name As A Domainer: There are 12 factors you must
consider before buying a domain name you intend to sell. Your understanding of these factors will
determine whether you are going to succeed in the business or not. These factors are responsible for my
own success in the business. Factor 1: Trademark: If you buy a domain name that is protected by the
trademark law, it will be very hard for you to sell and the trademark owner can get it back through UDRP.
The Uniform Domain-Name-Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) began in 1999 to protect trademark holders
from cybersquatting, which is a term used to describe the act of intending to make money by registering,
trafficking in or using a domain name simply to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to
someone else.

Names that identify the source of products or services in the marketplace are trademarks. You are at risk of
losing your precious domain name if the owner of an existing trademark convinces a judge or arbitrator that
your use of the domain name makes it likely that customers would be confused as to the source or quality
of the products or services. A good domainer should check that the domain name he wants to purchase is
not a trademark.

Factor 2: A .Com Is Better: If you go through the top domain sales we have examined in this lecture and
the daily sales reports by Namebio, you will discover that most of them belong to the .com top level domain
(TLD). The .com TLD, managed by Verisign, was one of the TLDs in the internet when the Domain Name
System (DNS) was implemented in January 1985. The first .com TLD, Symbolics.com, was registered on
15th March, 1985 and by 1997, the millionth .com domain name had been registered. The success of .com
TLD makes it the preferred choice on the World Wide Web. Majority of web visitors expect the websites
they visit to be a .com. They tend to believe that a website that is not in the .com extension is not
professional. Other top level domains are selling but .com is their boss. As a result of this, a domainer
should know that his priority should be put on .com TLD.

Factor 3: Easy To Remember: A lot of internet users don't use bookmarks. They just memorize the domain
names of their favorite websites and type them anytime they intend to visit any of them. Many visitors can
be lost if a domain name is complex and not easy to remember. Consequently, you should only purchase
domain names that are easy to remember and they will be gold in your portfolio.

Other Factors: (4) Short (5) No-hyphen (6) Easy to spell (7) Have good comparables (8 ) Have end-user
value (9) Maximum of 13 characters most times (10) Good Estibot value most of the times (11) One word
or two word in most cases (12) Must belong to one
of the hot 13 domaining categories.

Thanks boss for this info. I quickly visited the site and it really saved me the time I usually spent checking
domain availability one by one on godaddy......thanks.

Tool 2: Bulktopia: Bulktopia provides domain name suggestions based on your keywords, along with
research into potential domains, such as age, expiration, page rank, backlinks and social media account
availability.

Tool 3: Estibot: Estibot is a trusted and widely used free domain appraisal service providing over 1.3 million
appraisals per day. Its search engine is trusted by registrars, parking companies and investors to generate
accurate fair market value based on historical sales and other criteria including search statistics.

Tool 4: Alexa: Alexa provides web traffic data, global rankings and other information about websites. Alexa
ranks website based primarily on tracking a sample set of internet traffic and the lower the Alexa ranking of
a website, the more traffic it gets. For example, a website with an Alexa ranking of 150 gets more traffic
than a website with an Alexa ranking of 2500. Alexa is used in domaining to know the popularity of an
expiring domain.

Tool 5: Valuate: Valuate is a free appraisal tool owned by Uniregistry and it uses Estibot 2.0 valuation
engine. This means that the value you will get on Estibot is the same with what you will get on Valuate.
However, Valuate will not give you domain appraisal details like Estibot but it will give you more free daily
appraisals than Estibot.
