Topic/Title: Arts and Crafts of Ilocos Region and Cordillera


Administrative Region (CAR)

Time Allotment: 50 minutes

Introduction:
Arts and crafts are important means of expression, which communicate views, ideas and
feelings through the use of skills and imagination. These are important parts of our daily
lives and can be found everywhere. This module will take you to the journey of arts and
crafts of Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). You will become
familiar with the different designs, motifs and history of their attires, fabrics, crafts and
accessories used by the people of different regions.

Content Standard:
The learner demonstrate understanding of:
 Art elements and processes by synthesizing and applying prior knowledge and
skills
 The salient features of the arts of Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative
Region (CAR) by showing the relationship of the elements of the art and
processes among culturally-diverse communities in the country
 The Philippines as having a rich artistic and cultural tradition from Pre-colonial
period to the present

Performance Standard:
The learner:
 Creates artworks showing the characteristic elements of the arts of Ilocos Region
and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
 Exhibits completed artworks for appreciation and critiquing

Learning Competencies and Objectives:

● Analyze elements and principles of art in the production of one’s arts and crafts
inspired by the arts of Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.
● Identify characteristics of arts and crafts in specific areas in Luzon (e.g., Ifugao
wood sculptures [bul’ul], Cordillera jewelry and pottery, tattoo, and Ilocos weaving
and pottery [burnay], etc.)
