1. Use on-line library databases to identify articles in trade publications that provide case studies of ERP
implementations.

a. How widespread is the use of ERP across certain industries?

ERP systems are always used in the industries of business (retail, wholesale and manufacturing), finance, food and beverages,
healthcare, media, software companies and construction. ERP systems are to manage the day-to-day activities of the mentioned
industries.

b. What are the benefits reported from implementing ERP?

The ERP system implementation in the organization has a lot of advantages including improvements in productivity, increase in
efficiency, and smoother process. ERP system is also security feature for your data. ERP system helps us to have a smoother
workflow in the environment and we can also facilitate the entire company using one screen with the use of ERP system.

c. What are its limitations?

The ERP system requires trained personnel to control and manage it. Without proper training of staff or employee, ERP systems
will be ineffective.

2. Research and learn about the implementation of ERP. Use trade publications and on-line library databases (e.g., ABI
Inform, ProQuest, First Search, Wilson Select Plus, available through your library) to conduct a search for articles.

a. Find a success story of ERP implementation. What factors contributed to the success of this implementation?

Apple Inc. is one the most successful companies in the world, Apple signed a key partnership with SAP to further push their
iPhone and iPad businesses everywhere. The database is built to store large amounts of business data, such as inventory and
transactions, it is called ‘Enterprise Resource Management”. SAP created a native iPhone and iPad apps specifically for
the developers to access their data on the go. With the partnership and use ERP system, it will boost the reach of the business and
it is a big part of the ongoing evolution of Apple.

b. Find a story of problems encountered with an ERP implementation. What factors contributed to the encountered
obstacles?

In the year 1996, Hershey’s is set out to upgrade their IT system into an ERP. The implementation team at Hershey's  had to cut
corners on critical system testing phases. Unforeseen issues prevented orders from flowing through the systems when they went
live in July 1999. As a result, Hershey's was unable to fulfill $100 million in Kiss and Jolly Rancher orders, despite having the
majority of the inventory on hand.
