UNIT 6: HEALTH
EXERCISE 1
Bandage: a long, narrow piece of cloth that is tied around an injury or a part of
someone's body that has been hurt.
Plaster (Band-aid): a small piece of sticky cloth or plastic that you use to cover
and protect a cut in the skin.
Defibrillator: a machine that uses an electric current to stop any irregular and
dangerous activity of the heart's muscles, used especially in hospitals.
Insulin pen: People with diabetes use insulin pens to inject insulin, a vital
hormone for people who have diabetes.
EpiPen: a brand name for a device used for injecting the drug epinephrine into
someone's body when they are having a serious allergic reaction.
Splint: a long, firm object used as a support for a broken bone so that the bone
stays in a particular position while it heals.
Inhaler: An inhaler is a small device that helps you to breathe more easily if you
have asthma or a bad cold.

EXERCISE 2
A severe allergic reaction.
A diabetic episode.
A cut.
A limb fractures.
A severe asthma attack.
A severe head injury.
A heart attack.

Episode: a sudden attack of an illness.

Anaphylactic shock is a rare but severe allergic reaction that can be deadly if you
don't treat it right away. It's most often caused by an allergy to food, insect bites,
or certain medications.
