Title of Project
Trajedi of Bukit Kepong Police Station 1950
Abstract of Project
Museums have been an important part in Malaysia. Our history is recorded on artifacts and historic moments that tells
stories that shape our country as it is today. Visiting a museum was like visiting an ancient tale told long ago. However, in
today’s era, visiting a museum in Malaysia is not as exciting as it was years ago. People are just not attracted going to a
museum nowadays
The purpose of this project is to identify the problems on attracting visitors going to museum. To create a museum that uses
Virtual Reality, allowing the visitor to have more engagement with the artifacts and hubs within the museum. Thus allowing
them to actively participate throughout the experience of the museum without having to worry from the current pandemic of
Covid-19.

Project Goal
Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, museums around Malaysia have taken a toll. Not only from a financial
perspective, but also from the population perspective as well. Adapting and obeying the rules based on the
ever-changing MCO (Movement Control Order), lesser and lesser people are coming to the museum.
The museum represents a part of our nation. The contents of it contain artefacts and historic moments that
tell stories on how our country was built. Unfortunately , the joy and exciting feeling of going to the museum
has died down among the citizens thanks to Covid-19. Some have decided to learn historic knowledge through
other methods, such as Youtube or video games, while some even opted for a private session visit only as well.
However, thanks to the Internet along with digital media and VR in today’s era. We are able to recreate the
experience of visiting museums. Create a virtual space of a museum where visitors can interact through VR
during the Covid-19 pandemic. The visitor can interact with objects/artifacts as in like holding it and looking at
it closely.

Problem Statement + Authenticity of Project
7
Reframing Problem Statement
Boring
- Passive engagement, only reading
and looking.
- Repetition on how information is
presented.
- Similar replica displays that can be
found in other museums in Malaysia.
- No live performances /
demonstrations / re-enactments.
- Lack of modern day touch.
8
Reframing Problem Statement
Interactable Artifact
Possible Solutions
- Provide information using narrator, video
and animation.
- Interactable object /artifact.
- Re-enactment based on the artifact /
historic moment.
Re-enactment
9
Reframing Problem Statement
Outdated
- Tour of the museum is outdated.
- Layout of the museum is outdated.
- Outdated method of presenting.
10
Reframing Problem Statement
Modernise
Possible Solutions
- Give a modernise look to the museum.
- Layout of the museum is based on the
theme of the artifact.
- Information pops out when the user
touches a highlighted artifact.

Reframing Problem Statement
Tour Experience
- Language barrier.
- Lack of different languages on
information panel.
- Unfriendly and unhelpful.
- Lack of regulations.

Reframing Problem Statement
Security
Possible Solutions
- Multilingual narration and information
(Bahasa Melayu, English, Mandarin,
Arabic, etc.)
- Reinforcement of regulations and
disciplinary action.

Summary
According to the first list of possible solutions, we can prevent the visitors from being bored by letting
them engage with intractable artifacts, give them a virtual tour guide that can help them narrate the
contents of the museum, and give an immersive experience of environments based on artifacts in our
project.
Observing the second list of possible solutions, we can solve the “outdated” problem give a modernise
look for the virtual museum. Model certain hubs and areas according to the themes and contents, and
make an interactive popup information panel based on the artifacts.
Regarding the third list of solutions. One of the ways to improve the tour experience is by having
multilingual narration in our project..

Opportunity In Developing The Content
Possible opportunities to collaborate with museums for content refinement and expansion.
Advantages of VR Content
Applying VR in the content allows for an immersive experience for the visitor. Instead of visiting a place where
artifacts are stored, visitors would be immersed in a thematic based environment according to the contents of the
museum.
Usage of VR also allows the visitor to interact with the contents in the museum. This will make the visitor constantly
active with their engagement throughout the museum experience, whether it be examining an artifact, conversing
with the tour guide, or exploring around hubs in the museum.
Objectives
- To search for methods on attracting visitors with engaging and active participation.
- To find suitable ways of giving immersion based on artifacts for visitors.
- To have an interactive character in a form of a tour guide, that can narrate and guide
the visitor as they explore around the museum.

- Enhanced real exhibitions with additional online experience, such as interactive applications,
virtual excursions, game tours, audio tours, mobile guides and other technologies, which remove
boundaries between in-site and online museum visiting.
Technology

Objectives
- Photo albums have not resonated with the amount of immersion that three dimensional
environment could provide.
- Create an App that can view photo using VR
Technology
- Designing an interior environment and considering aspects such as spatial awareness, simple
navigation, and context expandability.
- Huge benefit of virtualizing museums gives access to unlimited space and open access to regional
exhibits, anyone with an internet access can take part.

Interactive Conversational Character as a Virtual Tour
Guide to an Online Museum Exhibition
Objectives
- To establish a customized character user dialogue while guiding the user through the virtual
exhibition
- The interactive character attempts to provide adaptive guidance, to perform engaging storytelling
and to promote user’s participation through the virtual tour.
Technology
- Uses HTML as their virtual tour guide that is filled
with pages of images and objects.

The digital capabilities for this solution are all on-display only.
The solution here is limited to just only viewing and grabbing of a object.
The tour guide in this solution only provides through a webpage. The user also has to point-and-click with
their mouse in order to make the tour guide continue with its narration. The narration is a pre scripted
statements from a knowledge content-database.
