The shrink fit method shall be used:

A) If one of the parts is composed of titanium or titanium alloy.

B) If shaving, galling or damage of the bearing or housing surfaces occurs when
using the press fit method.
C) If either of the bearing or housing mating surfaces have protective finishes or
plating.
D) For spherical and journal (bushings) bearings installed with interference.

3.5.1 The tolerances for NAS 537, NAS 538, SAE-AS14237, and SAE-AS14238
standard bushings are shown in Table I and Figure 1. Install by shrink fit method unless
specified otherwise by engineering drawing.

3.5.2 Tolerances for interference critical bushings are shown in Table II. Install by
shrink fit method unless specified otherwise by engineering drawing

3.5.3 Tolerances for standard light press fit bushings with inside diameters finished to
size (NAS75, NAS76, NAS77) are listed in Table III.

3.5.4 Tolerances for standard clamp-up type bushings are listed in Table IV.
