Title: NATIONALISM AND PATRIOTISM

Course Description:
The course covers the study of the concepts and principles of nationalism and patriotism
specifically the application of knowledge to law enforcement administration, public safety and
criminal justice and embodied in the applicable law and jurisprudence.

Learning Outcomes:
In the end of this module, the students shall be able to:
 Demonstrate and understand the concept of character formation, values and attitude
 Know the concepts and principles of nationalism and patriotism.
 Contribute Knowledge in the understanding human behavior in relation to human acts
and the existence of law.

Learning Objectives:

The objectives of this module are:


 Students are able to appreciate and understand the nationalism and patriotism that will
benefit them to become an effective citizen of their country.
 Students are able to apply the Knowledge of the principle of nationalism and patriotism
in law enforcement administration, public safety and criminal justice.
 Students are able to exercise their knowledge in human behavior in relation to human acts
which embodied in applicable laws and jurisprudence.

CHARACTER FORMATION

 Character formation is a psychological notion that refers to all the habitual ways of
feeling and reacting that distinguish one individual from another.
 Refers especially to moral qualities, ethical standards, principles, set of values, attitudes
and behavior.
WHAT IS NATIONALISM?
 Nationalism is an ideology and movement that promotes the interests of a particular
nation especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's sovereignty over its
homeland.
 Nationalism is an ideology that emphasizes loyalty, devotion, or allegiance to a nation or
nation-state and holds that such obligations outweigh other individual or group interests.
 The term “nationalism” is generally used to describe two phenomena: (1) the attitude that
the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity, and (2) the
actions that the members of a nation take when seeking to achieve (or sustain) self-
determination.

WHO IS A NATIONALIST?
 a person who strongly identifies with their own nation and vigorously supports its
interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.
