Statement of Purpose- Hospitality and Event Management

Introduction
The services industry occupies an increasingly important position in the modern global economy.
As a native of a small Asian country, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of focusing not
only on customers in Asia, but also on the international community as a whole. With this in
mind, I hope to study in the USA in order to improve my language abilities and become more
competitive in the workplace of the future. I have decided to specialize in Hospitality and Event
Management, and because the USA has a reputable business sector and world-renowned
education system, it is the ideal setting in which to build my international experience and prepare
for the challenges of my future career.

Family background and Academic qualifications

I am Dixit Adhikari, son of Mr. Krishna Prasad Adhikari and late Mrs. Durga Adhikari. I was
born on 31st January 1993. I am a permanent resident of Mechinagar Municipality Ward No.13,
Jhapa. Nepal. My passport number is 07433998. I live in a nuclear family with five members
including me, my Father, two Brothers and a Sister-in-law.

I accomplished my secondary School Level from East Horizon English High School, Jhapa, in
2010 with 72%. I completed my High School level (Year 11 and 12) from Balmiki Providence
Higher Secondary School in 2012 securing 47.20% in Management stream. Similarly, I
completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management securing 2.79 GPA (Grade Point
Average) from International School of Tourism and Hotel Management affiliated to Salzburg
University of Applied Science, Austria in 2016.

Internship and Work Experience

During my 3 years Bachelor’s program, I got 1-year internship opportunity in China. I felt very
lucky to grab the golden chance to be a part of the reputed 5 star hotel “PHOENIX
WATERSIDE GLORIA RESORT” Sanya, China.

During my internship program, I was exposed to various departments of the hotel. I worked my
very first two months in Food and Beverage Department, four weeks in In-Room Dining, four
weeks in Kitchen. Also I worked four months in Front office Department. In my last six months,
I worked in Housekeeping Department. This industrial exposure really helped to boost my
confidence, patience and communication skill in a professional way.

After completing internship and my graduation, I got an opportunity to work in one of the
renowned 5 star property “MIRAMAR AL AQAH BEACH RESORT” Fujairah, United Arab
Emirates (UAE) from 26th April, 2017 to 6th May, 2018 in Housekeeping Department as Room
Attendant. After completing my one year job I came back to Nepal and soon after my return, I
started working in “HOTEL MARIGOLD” Nagarkot, Bhaktapur, Nepal from 15th July, 2018
till 28th August, 2019 as Restaurant Supervisor.

After working in Hotel Industry for 2 years, and after seeing and doing so many things that’s
almost incomprehensible to myself, it got me thinking, that I wanted to move forward into my
career more academically to improve my understanding and skills to the next level. I came to the
decision that for my Master’s Degree, I would need my prospective education provider to help
me mature into that sort of professional. I started looking overseas. Choices offered in Nepal
were very limited, especially in terms of the quality of educators and course content. I want to
gain specialized knowledge in the field of hospitality which is recognized globally. But the
education provider of my country do not provide specialized course in Hospitality and Tourism
Management. Besides, there is an increasing demand for Master of Science in Management –
Hospitality & Event Management or Innovation of same industry. Hence, because of this reason,
I decided to study abroad for my higher study.

I have chosen United States of America (USA) as my education destination because of the
greater quality of education it provides. The education system in USA is known to be one of the
highest standard and globally recognized. The diversity in United States too gives chance to
expand the knowledge of other cultures, which forms part of my initial motivation to upgrade my
knowledge and career in a global setting.

Reasons for choosing United States of America (USA)

At present context, USA is one of the biggest countries that has grown so rapidly in term of any
aspects. The education system in America is known to be of the highest standard and globally
recognized. Beside this, United States is the destination for more than millions international
students.

Reason for choosing Master of Science in Management – Hospitality & Event

Management
I came to know about Master of Science in Management – Hospitality & Event Management
during my research period about the education system of USA. The Master of Science in
Management – Hospitality & Event Management is designed for graduates of Bachelor`s degree
or similar qualification in discipline related to hospitality sector which exactly suits me.
Moreover, it also caters to broaden my knowledge as well. In addition, I also can use this
qualification as a pathway to postgraduate study in Hospitality Management or related field and I
wish to enhance an existing qualification for study career in hospitality industry. The global
business world is constantly changing and hence the need for professionals who understand an
ever-changing global economic situation has taken off. After gaining an international MBA, I
will become a part of a dynamic and challenging work environment, pushing to become better
each day.

My Future Plans after Completing My Course

After successful completion of my course in the United States, I would like to have some
experience there in the related field. Thereafter, I will return to my home country having some
international experience with international qualification and updated skills and knowledge.
Hospitality and Tourism business is growing day by day in Nepal. Many graduates in my home
country do not have deep knowledge in the field of hospitality sector so, international student
who have deep knowledge in hospitality sector usually have high chance of getting hired by the
leading hotels in my country. Therefore, if I get a chance to study in America then I will be able
to gain deep knowledge in the field of hospitality management as per the latest need and demand
and boost up my ability as well. Hence, after the completion of my study and having some
experience I will return back to my home country to fulfill all my dreams and make my family
members proud.

Conclusion
The main incentives of me for returning in my home land are because of inseparable bond with
my family members and peers. My parents have always been supporting and have helped me
emotionally and financially till date. I feel that it`s my duty and responsibility to look after my
dad in his old age. After being fully eligible to work and earn money, I want to reduce the burden
of my dad. My home town has limited number of hotels and resorts and I want to increase its
number and develop as hotel and tourism sector in a modern way and new concept. Therefore,
after the completion of my study and having some experience I will genuinely return back to my
home country to fulfill all my dreams and make my family members proud by working in
leading hotel industry of my nation.
