The digitalisation affects the life of many people. The connectivity of peoples in
the digital space has put a new spotlight on the importance of constitutional rights
such as free speech and press freedom. Clearly, social media significantly impacts the
trajectory of Philippine democracy. Also the media have become part of life for many
young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think
what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative.
Filipinos are fond of taking things to social media. There’s no denying it, we
Filipinos are social. Social Media becoming accessible means of communication. On
top of that, Filipinos are also using it to promote something, introducing other sides of
the Philippines to the rest of the world. Filipinos only need to learn the art of sorting-
out information and using the sites and apps responsibly to avoid from misinformation
and online backlash.
Additionally, the new media plays a big role in the acquisition of information
among Filipinos especially to all young people many of the personal information has
been shared publically. Nowadays many of the youth don’t know about the privacy
policy of any blog and they don’t actually know that this information will be disclosed
to the other persons like advertisements and the new generation nowadays are more
dependent to social media they post all their opinions, rants and personal information.
We have the right to express our self and it is good that we have the freedom to say
what we want however we should filter it or think before we post some information in
any media because it may harm or offend someone. We should be careful on what we
are saying in front of other people and always consider that your words may hurt
others.
