concepts and ideas, the main focus of Big Idea based art education. Art allows us to Concepts are
represented in many forms but we generally end up using language to unify our interpretations. This
piece represents the discourse of the exchange and representation of ideas. We need language to
communicate, it is the most direct ,mechanism we have develop for the purpose of exchange of our
thoughts. At the same time language also serves as a stumbling block and is incomplete. So, visual
forms help us understand the abstract but they are ultimately incomplete in doing so, or at least that is
the experience for me. Education is a directed, purposeful exchange of ideas. Ultimately, everyone has
their own understanding but the exchange of the individual thoughts creates a new group identity. This
exchange is represented in the artwork by letters, words and phrases representing singular
understanding of concepts. By interacting, shown by the overlapping, these ideas create their own
identity. The discourse creates an identity of its own, a group identity. This identity is semi-abstract
but also semi-representational my metaphor for the practice of art in the modern world.
