Update 18 March 2011

Easter and May Bank Holiday refuse collection changes

This year Good Friday and Easter Monday week end is immediately followed by
the Royal wedding Friday and Spring Bank Holiday Monday. If we were to adopt
the usual method of catching up ( as we do over Christmas and New Year ) it
would cause several weeks of disruption.

So , this Easter , in consultation with the Council, a different approach has been
taken to try to minimise both the time taken to catch up and the number of
residents inconvenienced by the Bank Holidays .

The details are on this website , on the Council's website , in One Island
Magazine 18th March Page 5 and will be in the County Press nearer Easter .

Low Energy Light bulbs

We have had a few calls asking where these can be disposed of .

Essentially a low energy bulb is a fluorescent light . There is a facility for

collecting and recycling fluorescent lights at the main Civic Amenity Site -
Lynnbottom (near Robin Hill).

Isle of Wight Compost

Its getting to that time when we are all getting back into the garden or
allotment . Isle of Wight compost is an excellent product for digging in to give
your soil extra nutrients and organic matter.

A 1 cubic metre builders bag is £38 - including delivery - phone 01983 200912 for
details or to order.

Civic Amenity Sites

Please note you cannot take plasterboard or asbestos to these sites please read
the notes below headed :

'Domestic Asbestos and Plasterboard'

Lynbottom Civic Amenity site is currently open 7 days /week 7am - 7pm

During peak times at week ends this site can become very busy and sometimes
you will experience a considerable wait. In order to avoid this you might consider
using the site during the week.

Afton - Saturday and Sunday 9.30 to 4.30 .

Forest Road - Saturday and Sunday 9.30 to 4.30 . Please note that we do not
accept cars with trailers or large vans e.g transits at this site
Domestic Plasterboard

Domestic Plasterboard can be taken to the Forest Road site Monday to Friday
0830- 1130 and 1500-1630. We cannot accept plasterboard that has artex or
tiles attached.

Domestic Asbestos

If you have asbestos to dispose of from your house the first thing you need to do
is to phone the Isle of Wight Council 01983 823777 and obtain a permit . Once
you have done this and followed the instructions given with this permit the
asbestos can be taken to the Forest Road site Monday to Wednesday - the same
times as for plasterboard above .
